"I don't know, maybe it's all in my head."

For the majority of the day, Jungkook could feel eyes on him, specifically from his female cohorts. He was invisible just a week ago but today they were all smiles. It was unnerving. What changed?

"Do I look ok? Like, is there something on my face?" He asked Taehyung as they walked to statistics class.

Taehyung squished Jungkook's cheeks together with his hand and roughly turned his face left and right before pushing him backward. "Nah. You're still ugly."

Jungkook stumbled backward and bumped into someone. He quickly turned around to her and apologized.

"It's ok." She blushed and tucked strands of long, black hair behind her ear. "You're Jungkook, right?"

Jungkook laughed nervously. "Yeah, that's me. I'm sorry, I don't know your-"

"Sujin." She said, extending her hand to him.

He shook it politely. "Nice to meet you. I'll see you around, Sujin."

She watched his tall frame as he walked away, a small smile playing on her lips. If she had her way, this wouldn't be the last time they spoke.

It took a couple of strides to catch up to Taehyung. "See what I mean?? Why is everyone so nice to me now?"

"She literally just said hi to you. Don't you think you're reading a bit too far into it?" Taehyung laughed.

"Yeah well, girls that pretty didn't talk to me at all last year."

"You aren't as ugly as you were last year. You're still ugly, just less so. And people can sense when you have a girlfriend and suddenly your stock goes up. One person wants you and now everyone wants you."

"I don't have a girlfriend." Jungkook corrected.

"But you still give off that vibe," Taehyung countered.

Jungkook shook his head as he sat in his chair next to Taehyung. "You have no idea what you're talking about."

"I'm serious! No one ever wants anything to do with me until I have a girlfriend. Or a boyfriend. It's like they can smell it on you. They can smell the happiness coming from your skin and they want in on it."

Jungkook made a face. "I don't know if I like this or not."

"Why not?"

"It feels kind of fake. If I wasn't worth your time before, don't talk to me now. Don't suddenly like me just because she does."

The 'she' he referred to walked into the classroom at that moment.

They instantly made eye contact and Jungkook went silent. Hyun-Ji waved to him shyly. He gave her a slight wave and bit his bottom lip, trying to stifle his smile as he watched her scurry to her seat.

Taehyung watched the entire exchange, looking back and forth between them. Maybe Jungkook wasn't lying after all. Maybe something did happen between them.

But how?? She literally says nothing to anyone. Ever. And somehow Jungkook gets close to her. Very close. Meanwhile, Taehyung didn't even know what her voice sounded like.

He looked back to Jungkook and flicked his now red ear. "I'm going to throw up watching that." He chuckled quietly.

"Me too. Did you see her face?"

Both boys' heads turned toward the source of the not-so-quiet comment. Two other males boldly stared back, trying to hide their smug smiles but doing a terrible job.

"Yah. Do you have a problem?" Taehyung said in a low voice. They snickered back but said nothing more.

Hyun-Ji's body looked uncomfortably rigid. She had clearly heard them. Jungkook noticed how she angled her face away from them trying to block their view of her.

He wanted to hug her but he knew she wouldn't like that at all. She liked to remain invisible at school, and hugging her in front of everyone would cause unwanted attention. He was having a hard enough time processing the increased attention as it is.

It was also why she didn't hang around him much on school grounds. She didn't want the attention, and Jungkook, who was blissfully unaware of his high social status, would cause her obscene amounts of attention.

Hyun-Ji stared at her desk, unseeing. She actually had been having a good day until now. The weekend had been particularly stressful and it had manifested on her face. Multiple breakouts had graced her with their presence, leaving her face splotchy and textured. Her cheeks burned and she silently prayed that her face wasn't red. Well, redder than it already was. Thankfully the rest of the class went on without further snide comments, but she couldn't help but feel that every time they laughed it was at her.

Jungkook neither did nor said anything.

That left her confusingly irritated.

She was perfectly capable of handling herself and had done just that before he came into her life. Jungkook wasn't her boyfriend. He wasn't obligated to be her savior, nor did she want him to be.

But his silence still irritated her.

She sighed. Maybe she was a little sensitive because of the events from over the weekend. While Friday was beautiful, Saturday was not. Hyun-Ji has once again found herself in her father's angry sights and was verbally berated for the better part of the day. All because she wanted to stay in her room while he stomped around the house intoxicated.

The bell rang to signal the end of class and Hyun-Ji bolted for the door as soon as she could. She would have to thank Taehyung another time for doing more than Jungkook did. For now, she just needed to get away from everyone, including him.

Taehyung watched her practically run out, then gave Jungkook a heated look. "Good job speaking up for her," he said icily.

Jungkook held his hands up defensively. "What was I supposed to say?"

"Something." Taehyung left without another word.

What was Jungkook supposed to do? If he had said something it would have caused a scene. That was something neither of them wanted. Showing her special treatment would cause rumors to fly.

Even still, he was starting to feel like his inaction may not have been the right choice

Even still, he was starting to feel like his inaction may not have been the right choice. He looked at the chair where she sat and hoped their comment hadn't affected her too badly.
