"What about this one, baby?"
Hyun-Ji felt a sense of deja vu as she looked at the dress that her mother held up for her to see, and a wistful feeling came over her.
She missed eomma Haneul.
Was she ok?
"That's a very pretty color," she said, smiling sadly, nostalgically reciting the exchange she had with Jungkook's mother.
They were in a boutique at the mall to find a dress for Hyun-Ji to wear under her graduation robes. All of the dresses she owned didn't fit anymore. It didn't take long to find something, at least. There was only one maternity store in the mall, and they surprisingly had a good selection.
A stop at the food court was next on the agenda. With her appetite still nonexistent, Hyun-Ji picked at her food, her eyes roaming through the crowd while her mother chatted away. Hyun-Ji would throw in an 'uh-huh' here and a 'really' there so that she wouldn't seem rude, but she honestly had no clue what her mother was talking about.
The slim figure of a certain woman caught Hyun-Ji's attention. Her long, dark hair contrasted her flawless porcelain skin perfectly, and she walked with the confidence of an empress.
Why now? Why did she have to see Sujin right now?
The sound of Areum's voice disappeared, blending in with the countless other voices in the court as Hyun-Ji followed her adversary with her eyes, hoping that somehow her stare would trigger a lightning strike and end their rivalry once and for all.
Why did she make it her life's work to antagonize Hyun-Ji?
She interrupted her mother, saying she would be right back, and abruptly stood from her chair with the intention to find out just that.
Hyun-Ji stomped out of the building, finally catching up to the long-legged brunette after some effort. Blueberry was not making it easy to breathe.
"Sujin!" Hyun-Ji called breathlessly.
She turned around at the sound of her name and removed her designer sunglasses with a smirk when she recognized Hyun-Ji.
"What do you want?" She said nonchalantly.
Sujin's crystalline gaze made Hyun-Ji momentarily hesitate. What had possessed her to run after Sujin anyway? This woman was intimidating.
"Why?" Hyun-Ji asked, somehow summoning the courage.
Sujin merely raised a well-shaped eyebrow in query.
"Why do you hate me? What did I ever do to you?"
Sujin breathed out a haughty laugh and shook her head. "Are you really going to do this right now? You look like you can barely breathe."
"I'm fine," she snapped. "Tell me why you hate me so much."
The taller of the two sighed before speaking. "Fine. At first, I thought you were just annoying, but then I got to know you and figured out I just can't stand you as a person:
"You're weak. You're mousey. You can't even stand on your own two legs properly, let alone stand up for yourself. You're financially and facially challenged, yet everyone has their nose up your rear end as if you were the sparkling jewel of Korea, and I will never understand why.
