"I heard you and Hyun-Ji are dating," Seunggi said.

It wasn't the first time this week that Jungkook heard this statement. For the life of him, he couldn't understand where the sudden attention was coming from. Hyun-Ji was his friend: a friend that he didn't even hang around much at school because of their differing schedules. He saw her before school sometimes, and other times they talked after school.

School was a source of great anxiety for her. Although he didn't know the cause, he knew that highly social situations made her unbearably shy. He conversed with her when she desired it but gave her space when she needed it. She preferred to be invisible. That's just how she was and he respected that.

The only extended time they shared was on Friday's, which was away from school.

Jungkook stared straight ahead as he walked through the school hallway. "No. She's a friend," he said. Any further explanation and it would look like he was being defensive. That would only cause more speculation.

"I tried to tell that to Yihan but he wasn't trying to hear it," he laughed.

"You guys need to find better ways to occupy your time."

"You have been seen together more often. People talk."

People should mind their own business.

"So we're seen together sometimes," he shrugged, feigning a smile. "Don't friends talk to each other during the day? You and I are talking right now. That doesn't mean something is going on between us."

"I guess you're right," Seunggi conceded. "I didn't really see you two being together anyway."

Jungkook gave him a sidelong glance. "Why do you say that?"

"Cuz she... kind of... looks like she's not your type."

Jungkook let out a mirthless chuckle. "Oh. I didn't know I had a type."

Seunggi laughed nervously, sensing he was walking into a minefield. "Don't listen to me. I was just curious. I'll see you." Seunggi had reached his next class and not a moment too soon.

What the fuck was that supposed to mean??

Jungkook let out a sigh as he plopped down into his chair. Chemistry was his least favorite class and he had put it off until the last possible moment. He had already failed it once, and if he didn't pass this time he wouldn't graduate.

He'd rather take shots of Clorox than to take this class again. Yet here he was. The instructor had yet to arrive so Jungkook rested his head on his desk and closed his eyes.

Not that it was anyone's business, but why would it be such a big deal if he and Hyun-Ji were dating? She's cute. She's nice. She's into video games. It would be one thing if the rumors of them were perceived as positive but he had been approached in an almost teasing kind of way. Their questioning held a negative undertone despite being asked with a smile.

It was as if them being together was a bad thing.

Why tho??

Hyun-Ji was quite smart. She was funny. She wasn't afraid to be honest with him. She was hilariously sarcastic. She was a good person. All this went unseen by everyone else because she was a different person altogether at school. People handle stressful situations differently, and she chose to be reserved.

Jungkook felt oddly privileged that she chose to show parts of her true self to him. Despite it being a planned out agreement, she entrusted him with her body. His first time had been a good experience thanks to her, and the second time...

He felt his body twitch at the sudden memory of The Second Time. He shifted uncomfortably in his chair and pushed the thought away. That would be the second and last time it would happen. That's what she wanted. He would undoubtedly respect that.

But is that what you want?

His eyes opened at the sudden thought. What did he want? Did he want her to be his girlfriend, or was his attraction purely physical?

It doesn't matter anyway. Hyun-Ji doesn't want anything to change. She just wants to be friends. He closed his eyes again.

Feelings, however, can be confusing and inconstant. Especially his. That very day they were together again Jungkook made up his mind that he didn't want to do it again, that he didn't want to jeopardize their friendship, that it was best they weren't intimate with each other anymore, only for it to happen soon after. There was a unique energy that they shared. When he was near her he could feel that energy in the atmosphere.

It was chemistry. Ironic.

He futilely fought that energy the second day she came to his home. He didn't tell her that they were alone and would be for a while because he didn't want to create the very sexual tension that developed anyway. He had done so well at resisting it for so long. He was fine one moment and under her the next, it happened so fast.

His body twitched again at the thought of being under her. Her skin glistening with sweat, her hair clinging to her face, her sighs escaping her parted lips. When he had pushed her hair away from her face she had looked down at him through her long eyelashes. Her expression was...

Ethereal. It had sent him over the edge.

Jungkook grimaced and rested an arm across his lap. To the untrained eye, it would look like he had a stomachache. In reality, he was trying to push down the erection that made itself painfully known. These uniform pants were not forgiving. Neither was his brain, as it continued showing him flashes of her from that day: her biting her lip, the curve of her breasts, the vertical red lines she left across his chest that had sadly faded.

Stop. Thinking. About. Her!

Periodic table of elements. Covalent bonds. Specific gravity. Anything!

"Mr. Jeon?"

Jungkook's head snapped up at the sound of his teacher's voice. Lecture was in full swing around him. His face burned when he saw several pairs of eyes on him.

"Yes, ma'am?" He squeaked.

"Please refrain from sleeping, sir. I know how excited you are to learn about chemistry," she said with a grin.

"Yes, ma'am."

At least his erection was gone now.

But he wasn't any closer to sorting out what he felt about her.

You like her, don't you?

His body froze at the thought. Or maybe, subconsciously, he had.
