This has to be the most cliche thing I've ever done...
Hyun-Ji ignored her thoughts and stacked containers filled with food into a basket, followed by drinks and utensils, and a cold pack for good measure. She glanced up at the clock to see how much time she had left before Jungkook arrived, reminding herself that, as cliche as it was, this was for him.
They couldn't spend Valentine's Day together because he had to work, but she was resolved to make the day special, even if it was belated.
She shook her head, suddenly remembering the chocolate squares with love notes scribbled on their wrappers. That was one of the most important things she needed. The throw blanket from the family room was the next item on her list. She retrieved it with some effort, as stairs were quickly becoming her enemy. Back upstairs, she leaned against the wall, vowing to never return to the room unless life or limb depended on it. The flight up to their bedroom was enough of a hurdle as it is.
Her panting spell was cut short. Jungkook came through the door, green apron slung over his shoulder and a coffee in his hand. His eyes were half-open after working through a shift with only a few hours of sleep, thanks to a class project that needed to be done well into the morning. He wasn't even supposed to be working today, but his boss asked him to come in since someone else had called off, knowing he was always up for extra hours.
Hyun-Ji's face lit up at the sight of him. "You're home," she smiled.
Jungkook froze in place, her two words echoing in his tired mind. Maybe it was fatigue-induced delirium, but for some reason, her words touched him on a deeper level, and for a fragment of time he could see what life would be like if he always came home to her.
He was bone tired. He went from having all his free time to himself, doing odd jobs here and there for money he really didn't need for much else besides funding his video game addiction, to working two jobs and making sure Hyun-Ji was taken care of.
But if his constant debility meant that this scene could replay, that he could come home to her smiling face and hear those two words over and over...
He wouldn't change anything.
For a moment he closed his eyes, and corners of his mouth lifted when his eyes met hers. "Yeah. I'm home."
She draped the blanket over the couch and went to him, and he instinctively leaned down to kiss her full on the lips. He then handed her the coffee cup and smiled when she started to do the little dance she always did when he brought her food.
She looked like a dancing penguin.
"Is this a mocha latte with espresso? You didn't have to," she said sweetly.
"This is for you, and yes I did, or you would have whined for the rest of the night. Again."
She giggled as she took a sip of the warm beverage. He was right in his assumption. He came home one Saturday afternoon empty-handed because she didn't ask for one and she made him regret it.
"If you're not too tired, do you want to go to the park?" She asked.
"What's at the park?"
She looked up at him through her lashes. "Our next date?" she smiled.
