Jungkook was only half asleep when his alarm went off. He quickly reached behind him and silenced it so that it wouldn't wake Hyun-Ji.

Her deep breathing was a comforting sound, and so was the feel of her body against his. She had stayed glued to him the entire night. He stroked her hair and placed a kiss on her forehead.

He jolted back when he found her forehead was hot. Very hot. He touched her forehead again with his hand to find her skin was scorching and damp. In fact, her entire shirt was damp.

Jungkook carefully untangled their bodies and stood up. She immediately trembled at the loss of his body heat, whimpering as she wrapped the thick blanket tightly around herself.

Something wasn't right. Hyun-Ji was always complaining that she was hot. She even hated having to wear a coat despite it being winter.

Jungkook quickly went into the bathroom and located the thermometer, noting the smell of coffee in the air and the sound of his parent's shower running.

Haneul was awake.

Back in his room, Jungkook locked the door behind him, then sat next to Hyun-Ji. He swiped the thermometer across her forehead and it registered almost instantly.

102.4 f / 39.1 c

He looked down in fear at her shivering form. Sweat had beaded on her flushed face, and she wore a pained expression.

This is bad.

Fevers in general weren't a good thing, but she was pregnant. Could that hurt the baby?

Jungkook's eyes darted around the room and his mind raced, trying to figure out the next plan of action all while suppressing a growing feeling of panic. He needed help quickly, and there was only one person that could help him.

_______

"Mom?"

Haneul briefly looked up at her son and smiled from her seat at the kitchen table.

"You're up early," she said, taking a sip of her coffee and scrolling through her phone.

She looked back and tilted her head at him when she noticed his odd demeanor. Jungkook was a morning person that always greeted her with a smile.

Today he was standing there staring at her like a frightened owl.

Her brow furrowed. "What's wrong, honey?"

"Um... I have to tell you something."

She put her coffee mug and phone down and leaned closer. Whatever it was, it must be serious. He was never like this. "What is it?"

Before he could answer, the front door opened. Jungkook whipped his head around, immediately on alert. No one should be coming in since his father wasn't due back for another-

"Dad... Hi."

"Surprise!" His father sat down his rolling suitcase in the living room and walked briskly into the kitchen.

Haneul's eyes widened and she jumped up to greet him. "Jungseok! You didn't tell me you were coming early! I would have taken the day off to spend it with you!"
