"I miss you so much."

Hyun-Ji's eyes welled up at her mother's gentle words. Hearing Areum's voice again both wrenched her heart from the cage of her chest and mended its fragmented pieces simultaneously. It felt like weeks since she last saw or heard from her even though it had only been a few days.

"I miss you too. Are you safe?" Hyun-Ji said, clutching the phone as she spoke. Please let her be.

"Yes, I am safe. Now." Areum said. "What about you? Where are you?"

Hyun-Ji looked into a pair of dark chocolate eyes as she answered. "I'm with Jungkook."

"Are you safe? Is he treating you well? His family?" Her mother asked, worry evident in her voice.

"Yes, mom. They treat me very well. I'm safe here."

Areum let out a deep sigh of relief. She had battled with herself every day after she sent Hyun-Ji out into the night. Was she ok? Had she made the right decision, or did she send her off to an even worse situation? To learn that her daughter was being cared for put her tormented heart at peace. She would forever be indebted to the Jeon family for doing what she couldn't.

"Mom, where are you? I tried to call so many times."

"Seojun took my phone," she said, letting out a bitter laugh. "He wanted to keep me isolated from you, from everyone. I had to wait until he went to sleep every night to search for it

"When I found it, I waited for him to get drunk, then I took it and went to you aunt Youra's. I've been here ever since."

"And you're ok?"

"Yes, Hyun-Ji-ya," she smiled. "I'm ok."

Hyun-Ji closed her eyes, releasing the nervous breath she was holding. She had been terrified for her mother the entire time and was starting to fear the worst had happened.

Even though being with Youra meant her mother was hours away, it was still better than her being close by and in absolute hell.

They talked for over an hour, then Hyun-Ji gave the phone to Jungkook's mother at Areum's request. Areum wanted to thank her for taking care of her daughter.

Jungkook watched Hyun-Ji slowly walk back down the stairs, a far off look in her eyes, only focusing when she heard him speak.

"Come here," he said softly.

She didn't hesitate.

Their bodies collided and Hyun-Ji finally released all the fear and anxiety she had been holding on to. With each tear she released, she felt lighter. Each sob made the weight on her heart lessen. She locked her arms around his waist, gripping the cotton of his shirt, it keeping her anchored to the floor.

Jungkook held her just as tightly, kissing the top of her head and rubbing her back, reminding himself that she was actually here and real.

Sometime later Haneul joined them in the living room to relay the news. Hyun-Ji would be staying with them long term, at least until Areum found a more permanent living arraignment. But there was one problem: Hyun-Ji needed to return home to get some of her things. All of her vital documents were there. She didn't even have uniforms for school.
