Jungkook was convinced that there was no greater test of one's driving capabilities than to drive with a woman who was in active labor. It was hard to pay attention to the traffic around him when his fiancé was moaning in pain while gripping his hand.

They arrived unscathed at the birthing center despite a near collision with another distracted driver and were met by one of the midwives, as promised. She stood smiling at the entrance wearing soft pink scrubs and waving to them as Jungkook approached with Hyun-Ji in his arms.

"Hi! I'm Lily. I'm one of the nurse midwives. I'm glad you made it here safely," she greeted.

"Me too," Jungkook chuckled nervously. "Nice to meet you."

Hyun-Ji smiled weakly at her from where she clung to him, fearful of being here, but not wanting to be rude.

"You're going to be having your baby today!" She beamed.

Jungkook felt a bubble of nervous excitement burst in the pit of his stomach as he followed Lily to their delivery suite. It was almost identical to the one from the tour, very warm and homely, and one would think it was a bedroom and not a place where babies were born.

He gently placed her on the soft bed, his hands lingering to make sure she was stable.

"Hyun-Ji, you can wear whatever is comfortable as long as your bottom is exposed, of course, or you can wear one of our gowns."

"Um... I have something," she whimpered. "Jungkook, can you..."

"I'm on it," he said, preempting her request for the hospital bag stashed in the car. While out there, he notified everyone of their location, and that this was really it, that this wasn't another false alarm.

Back inside, he helped Hyun-Ji change into a sports bra and long t-shirt. Lily took her vital signs and checked how far she had dilated.

3 centimeters. She had 7 more to go.

"As your contractions get closer together I'll keep checking, but other than that you're free to move around the center. Use the birthing ball, walk around, anything that feels best. The more active you are, the faster things can move along."

Hyun-Ji nodded. "Can I use the tub please?"

"Sure. But can you wait a while? It can be very relaxing and I don't want you to get in too soon and stall your labor because you're too relaxed. Do you think you can wait until closer to the end?"

Hyun-Ji's body curled inward as another contraction began. Unable to speak, she nodded. Jungkook held her hand, his thumb stroking her skin soothingly as the wave progressed and eventually subsided.

"Hyun-Ji, don't do any pushing until you're fully dilated," Lily instructed. "If you feel the need to push let me know and I'll check you."

5:14 pm

"Hyun-Ji, baby!"

Hyun-Ji lifted her head from Jungkook's lap and slowly turned towards her mother's soft voice. Areum came to sit next to them on the bed, growing misty at the sight of her daughter in labor, her head in the lap of her boyfriend.
