"Is it just me or is Hyun-Ji getting fat?"
Classes had yet to start, and a certain couple walking into the school together had caught Sujin's attention.
Rose looked at Hyun-Ji over the top of her circular frames for all of two seconds before returning her attention to her phone. We're on this again?
"Leave the girl alone, Sujin. You're just mad because her face cleared up and now Jungkook likes her."
Sujin scoffed. "I don't know what he sees in her. There's nothing special about her. She walks around practically drinking a jar of chocolate all day. It's gross."
Rose laughed. "Maybe he likes 'em thicc."
"And ugly. I feel sorry for him. He's changed," Sujin said, scrunching her nose.
"Someone's jealous," Rose smirked. "She's not even ugly." Sujin was just being harsh because she was in her feelings.
"Am not. Why would I be jealous of her?"
Rose looked away from her phone and back at her friend. She could think of one tall, athletic, brown-eyed reason.
"Look, let it go. He obviously had a relationship in the works already when you started chasing him. You can't get mad that he has a girlfriend now. They look like they've had a slow burn going all semester and they're finally together."
"She's not his girlfriend," Sujin corrected.
Rose looked at Hyun-Ji and Jungkook now having an animated conversation with Taehyung.
"It sure looks like she is. Besides, Jungkook isn't even all that cute. I don't know why you're so hung up on him. Now, his friend on the other hand... I think he's my bias," she said while admiring Jungkook's slightly taller counterpart, a smile playing on her lips.
Taehyung must have felt Rose watching him. Their eyes met but neither of them looked away. Rose was quiet but not timid, and she let her eyes relay to Taehyung what her lips had yet to say.
Sujin rolled her eyes. "You just like weirdos."

"Those are the best kind," Rose said absentmindedly, watching Taehyung smirk as he walked away.
Meanwhile, Sujin couldn't shake the feeling that Hyun-Ji seemed different. For the last couple of weeks, she and Jungkook had been virtually inseparable, and as much as Sujin hated to admit it, they looked happy.
Too happy.
She continued to watch the couple in fascination. Hyun-Ji, who was arguably the most facially challenged, socially awkward person on the campus now glowed. She was positively radiant.
Being with Jungkook cleared her fucking skin!
What was he doing to have that effect on her? What was she doing to deserve his affections? Why wasn't Sujin the better romantic candidate? Sujin was visually stunning and was at the top of her class academically. Her father had climbed the political ladder so high that she and her family were essentially like royalty. She only chose to attend this school over something more prestigious because Rose went here.
Choice of school didn't matter anyway. Thanks to her father, her prosperity was pretty much assured. All she had to do was exist and she would live a life of comfort and decadence. If she wanted to start a business, it would be flourishing by years end, and if she wanted to do nothing, he'd pay her credit cards to keep her happy.
And despite all this, she was rejected in favor of her. This mousy, borderline overweight, troubled skin girl who probably barely met the socioeconomic requirement to even attend this school at all.
Maybe Rose was right. Maybe she was acting like a spoiled child having a temper tantrum over being told she couldn't have the shiny new toy she had been eyeing, only the shiny new toy had abs and was named was Jeon Jungkook. Maybe she should just let it go.
Just then, two rowdy males came tearing through the hallways play fighting with each other, paying no regards to who they bumped into as they went. Sujin's eyes narrowed as the next events unfolded.
Jungkook placed a hand on Hyun-Ji's belly to move her out of harm's way.
Had Jungkook not positioned himself between Hyun-Ji and the boys, she would have been hit. No, she probably wouldn't have been hurt, as they weren't quite that rowdy, maybe bumped at most. Jungkook moved Hyun-Ji aside and shoulder bumped the person who would have run into her had he not been there. The look he gave them was downright terrifying, making them both bow apologetically before scurrying away. Afterward, he looked back to Hyun-Ji, hand still on the side of her abdomen. Sujin read his lips as he asked 'Are you ok,' to which she nodded. Then he jerked his hand away and looked around, almost as if he were fearful of being caught.
"I know what's going on here," She whispered to Rose, never taking her eyes off the couple while mentally connecting the dots.
Hyun-Ji never takes off her jacket. It was winter and everyone was wearing large, puffy jackets so she never looked out of place. She was also sick earlier in the semester, and Jungkook had doted on her because of it. Then all of a sudden Jungkook begins to act weird, pulling away from Sujin even though he claims he's available, even though it was obvious that he was at least sexually attracted to her.
The bulge in his pants the night they were alone at Rose's place told her he was very much sexually attracted.
Now he's guarding Hyun-Ji, who is looking fuller than usual, as if she's... carrying precious cargo.
Rose rolled her eyes. "Sujin, leave it alone. I'm going to class."
"You're right," she said, her voice far away and a devilish smile lifting the corners of her lips. "I'll leave it alone. For now."

I can't believe we're almost halfway through the story. That makes me a little sad because I love writing this story so much.
