The Imprisoned Hero

Chapter 18

"Let's see what you got," said the police officer. The five months were over before we knew it. Along with physically training, I had to mentally train Overhaul to think and act like a hero. He was nervous as the day of reckoning arrived. I had Momo with me for some of the scenarios we had to give Overhaul. There were three he had to pass. One was saving someone from a building. Another was saving a hero from a fatal blow. The last one was acting like a hero. That was the mentality part that came in. For him to be known as a hero instead of a villain, he had to pass all three of them. He had to prove himself, without the help of me, that he can be considered a hero. 

"You're going to be ok," I said to Overhaul.

"I know," he said and rubbed his wrist. 

"Ok, here is your first scenario. You need to save someone from falling out of a building. Since we needed more space, the others agreed for you to take off your anklet to be here at U.A.'s training room. Are you ready, Creati?"

She gave the thumbs up and the police officer looked over at Overhaul.

"Are you ready, Overhaul?" he asked.

He nodded his head, "Yeah."

"Go, Creati!"

Momo created a doll and dropped it from the ceiling. Overhaul looked up and threw his hands onto the ground. He rose into the air and was in proximity to catching the doll. He held his hands out and caught the doll without disassembling it. He reassembled the ground and slowly came back to where the officer and I were standing. 

"Good. Let's move on. Next you're going to save a hero from a fatal blow. There is a dummy of a hero who does now know what is going on. On the other side is the villain who is trying to kill the hero. Creati will be the villain for this situation. Are you ready?"

She nodded her head and made a spear from her body. She ran towards the dummy and Overhaul touched the ground once more. Rising by the hero was a strong built wall. Momo collided with the wall. The officer took notes and nodded his head. 

"Alright. Here is the last test. There is a civilian that is in need of saving. There are no heroes that have arrived yet and you happen to be passing by. What do you do?" he asked and pointed to where there was a villain dummy and a civilian dummy. 

Overhaul ran over towards the dummy and put his hand on both of the dummy's arms. They exploded off and fell to the ground. The officer took one last note and nodded his head. 

"Your results will be given to you in a few days," he said and walked out. We headed back to the apartment. When we got back, I had to place the anklet back on to Overhaul's leg.

"How do you think you did?" I asked.

"I think I did ok," he said.

"I'll be back. Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone," I said and headed out of the apartment. I was meeting up with Deku and Todoroki today. I had told Overhaul beforehand. I walked out of the apartment building and towards a small cafe in Hosu. They were already sitting down outside waiting for me.

"How did it go?" Deku asked.

"We're going to know the results in a few days."

"He must have been nervous," Todoroki said.

"I'm still wrapping my mind about the idea of a once villain becoming a hero," Deku said.

"Seems a bit out of the ordinary," said Todoroki.

"I knew he had it in him to be able to do it," I said.

"Can I ask you something, Y/N?" Deku asked.

"Sure," I said.

"Has he ever tried to hurt you or use his quirk on you?" he asked.

I thought back to the night where Overhaul had accidentally choked me. But he had also felt pretty bad about doing it once he realized what he was doing. The only thing that I was grateful for was that he didn't activate his quirk.

I shook my head, "He has not."

"Really?" Todoroki asked.

"Yes."

"And you trusted him to be in your apartment?" Deku asked.

"He's not that bad of a person, guys. He was capable of changing. He may have been a villain, but he was still human. He still changed his ways because someone was there guiding him down the right path. He had taken the wrong path and wanted to have a clean start."

"Do you think he's going to work with us?" Todoroki asked.

"If he's called," I said. 

"Just imagining a once villain will be working with us. But, it would be cool to actually see Overhaul's quirk in action when it's not being directed at us," Deku said.

"Yeah," I said. "It's pretty terrifying when his quirk is being directed towards you."

"Did you ever think if he would see his old team members?" Todoroki asked.

"That never came to my mind," I said.

"Really?" Deku asked. "Because there is one or maybe even two that are still out and about."

"If we were to fight them, he would have to fight his old team members."

We continued to talk about the subject of Overhaul and work. We finished up our conversation and I headed back to the apartment. I opened the door to see that the lights weren't on. I tried to turn them on, but they wouldn't. I sighed and tried to find my way around in the dark.

"Chisaki, where the hell are you?" I asked.

"Come to the kitchen," he said.

"I can't even see the kitchen from here."

"Maybe this will help," he said and lit a candle. After that, he lit another candle until there was about twenty candles lit. I walked over to the light to see there was a cake on the counter. 

"Happy Birthday, Y/N," Overhaul said.

"How did you know?" I asked.

"I asked Momo when your birthday was. She said it was today and I felt bad that you had to watch the testing going on today. So I made you a cake."

"You didn't have to do that, Chisaki."

He smiled, "I wanted to make your day special for you. And this is also a thanks for doing everything you can to help me try to become a hero."

I smiled at him, "You're welcome."

"Blow out your candles and make a wish," he said.

I thought of a wish and blew out the candles. He turned the kitchen lights on and cut a small piece off of me. He cut off another piece for him and we ate together.

"What made you come up with this idea?"

"I wanted to repay you for everything you had done. Since I wasn't allowed out of the apartment, I decided to make a cake."

"I didn't know you could bake. This is really good."

"I did my best," he said.
