"I gave you my heart." Thomas smiled as he wiped the tears from his cheeks. Virgil was just... frozen. There really wasn't any other way to say it. "In the moments before your mother passed I gave you my heart... and in essence made you a part of me. It was only a few seconds but I swear those were the slowest seconds I have ever experienced in my immortal life." Thomas laughed but he didn't miss the way Virgil's hand went to his chest. "I saw your chest move. I watched you take your first breath and then... you started crying. You... you cried in my arms. I may not have created you like your mother but I did bring you into this world. You are a part of me. You are more me then that man who... I've honestly never met before."

"And my mother?" Thomas's face fell making Virgil's blood go cold. "She died before I was..." Thomas nodded and Virgil let out a choked breath. "If your my father then..." Thomas tensed knowing exactly what Virgil was going to ask. "Why the FUCK would you give me up?!"

"I didn't have a choice." Virgil scoffed as Thomas moved to the edge of his seat with desperation clear in his eyes. "Virgil, I love you with all my heart. You are my son and I would move the earth ten times over if it meant I could be with you but I couldn't. I had to protect you. I had to protect my heart." Virgil's eyes went wide as he dropped his cup shattering it against the wooden floor.

"Y-Your heart?" Thomas nodded and Virgil began to tear up. "I'm your... I'm your heart? You weren't just saying shit when you... you actually gave me your heart?" Thomas nodded again although a tad slower as Virgil began to cry. "Dads... His story was true?"

"I'm sorry, Virgil. I really am. I never left you. I would never do that. I just had to protect you. Logan and Patton... They promised to protect you. To love and care for you as if you were their own. Giving you to them was the hardest decision I had ever had to make. But it was the best decision I ever did. I mean look at you!" Thomas beamed as Virgil's head went spinning. "Look at the man you've become. You're strong and kind. You're selfless and caring. You're going to make an amazing Chief Virgil. I just know it."

"That god..." Thomas's face fell immediately startling Virgil at just how fast the mood changed. "The one who's heart got broken by a human... Is he real to?" Thomas's eyes narrowed as Virgil just smiled angerly filled with frustration. "Is. He. Real. To? Don't I have a right to know?"

"Virgil..."

"The story said he made a vow to break your heart. You said... I am your heart. If there is a god after me, I have the right to know..."

"VIRGIL!" Thomas watched as Virgil flinched and sighed in defeat. "Yes. Yes, he is." Virgil's eyes narrowed as Thomas started to tear up again. "Please, don't ask me about him. I just... I just can't."

"That was why I was confined to the island. There really is someone out there who wants to kill me." Thomas shied away as Virgil laughed. "Well, shit. I'd really like to see him try..."

"NO!" Thomas jumped up making Virgil yip in anxious fear seeing the rage in Thomas. "He's never to come anywhere near you EVER again. He's dangerous, Virgil. Right now he doesn't know you exist. He doesn't need to know you exist. You're safe. SO DON'T RISK YOURSELF!"

"Hey there, Godfather. I'm not stupid." Thomas frowned as Virgil glared at him. "I never said I would seek him out. "He may have been cursed so the story went but he's still a god. The fact that's he's even out there is enough to make me paranoid. Don't get all overprotective of me. You need to worry about yourself."

"What do you mean?"

"You weren't exactly stable the last time I saw you, remember... Te Ka." Thomas's eyes went wide as the younger shook his head with a sigh. "You nearly tried to kill Fa... Logan because he was 'keeping me away from you'."

"Oh god..." Thomas suppressed a gasp as Virgil's eyes grew dark.

"It wasn't good Thomas. I'm worried." Virgil frowned as he hugged himself tightly. "Logan said you had to sleep but... You were outright refusing. I don't understand. Why do you have to sleep?"

"There are periods of time... where Te ka is more... dominant in me. I was originally a demon so I must still obey demonic law. Every demon has periods of activity. In that period they are... the big boss so to speak. It's their time... During mine I tend to just sleep. If I'm not awake during that time then Te Ka isn't and nothing bad happens."

"How long do you sleep for?" Thomas's eyes flashed as he shook his head. "Thomas, how long do you sleep for?"

"It tends to be for centuries." It was Virgil this time who jumped up and yelled.

"WHAT?!" Virgil was absolutely fuming. His usually soft light blue eyes were glowing brightly as he clenched his fists."You were just going to go take a centuries-long nap WITHOUT TELLING ME?!"

"Look, I know you're angry..."

"Thomas, I would've panicked." Thomas tensed as Virgil started to cry. "I panic when Joan is an hour late to a meetup. If you just up and vanished for centuries... Cemeteries, Thomas! Think about it! I know I'm a demi and Demi's don't have as short a life span as humans but... SERIOUSLY! What if you woke up and I was..."

"Virgil, it's ok."

"NO, IT'S NOT! There is a man out there who wants me dead and you would have disappeared for..." Virgil's eyes shot wide as it hit him. "You could've woken up to find I had died. You wouldn't have been able to protect me. You could have... You were faced with the possibility of losing me the moment you closed your eyes."

"You lost me..."

"That's why you didn't go to sleep, Thomas." Thomas watched as Virgil clenched his fists with a sad but also... happy?... smile. "You couldn't risk losing me. Not when you knew you had the power to protect me. So you didn't go to sleep... You couldn't. I..." Virgil slowly met Thomas's eyes and smiled brightly. "I have to get you to go to sleep." Thomas's eye widened in shock as Virgil smirked at himself. "I have to prove to you I'll be ok... that you won't lose me... that it's ok to go to sleep."

"Virgil, If I am Te ka right now... I'm not going to nice or forgiving. I am very aggressive and..."

"But you still care about me, Thomas." Thomas could see the soft expression Virgil had but it didn't do much for his anxiety. "Despite the obvious difference in personality, I know you still care. It was as clear to me as the fact that you're gay..." Thomas laughed running a hand through his rainbow hair as Virgil chuckled. "You won't hurt me."

"Not on purpose but..." Virgil frowned as Thomas's voice shook. "Te ka isn't one for thought when it comes to my emotions. If I get angry or hurt I'll act on it without even thinking. You could end up in the crossfire."

"I'm going to be ok, Thomas." Virgil took Thomas's hands as he tried to smile reassuringly at him. "Nothing is going to happen to me." Thomas sighed in defeat as he gripped Virgil's hands tightly. "You aren't going to lose me. My fathers a god." Thomas laughed a little more as Virgil spoke. "You all raised me to be strong... to be powerful. I can do this."

"But what about..."

"I am not going to leave you." Thomas tensed as he heard the strength and force of Virgil's voice before it softened to reassure the worried god. "I'm going to ok. I promise."

"I guess every father has to step back at some point." Thomas let out a broken chuckle as he let go of Virgil's hands. "Even still not all of them are in this situation... You understand why I'm so worried right?"

"Of course." Virgil's gaze dipped a bit as he sighed. "I'm worried to but... I know what I have to do."

"Ok, then. I can't stop you." Virgil's eyes lit up as Thomas smiled softly at his son. "You are strong, Virgil. I know you're capable of changing minds... lives even... You are capable of anything."

"Don't get sappy, Thombone." The room slowly fell into silence as Virgil carefully picked his words. "Thomas, I..."

"You don't have to say it." Thomas smiled as Virgil's eyes began to water. "I know." Thomas let his energy shift as he focused on getting Virgil out of his mindscape. He didn't know why Virgil was here but he knew it was only more proof that Virgil was a part of him. However much Thomas loved just being here with him, Virgil needed to go back. He carefully brushed the hair out of Virgil's eyes as he took one last glance at his son. He was so very proud of the man he was becoming. "I love you too." And with that, the world went black...
