"I WASN'T THINKING!" Virgil reeled back as Roman's hands burst into flames. The god's bright pink eyes seemed to glow brightly setting a softly glow to his skin. "I WASN'T THINKING AT ALL! Virgil, you were dead... IN MY ARMS! I DIDN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE!" Roman froze up, taking a step back as he groaned in frustration. "I gave you my word Virgil. I would do whatever I had to to make sure that you succeeded. I promised that I would protect you and keep you safe from harm. That I... That I wouldn't let a single person or thing hurt you. I promised. What was I supposed to do... let you die?"

"I don't know. I just... You made another deal and the last one fucked you over."

"He may be a demon... but he's still my brother." Virgil's eyes softened as Roman visibly crashed, falling onto the bed with a sad look in his eyes. "He didn't... He didn't mean for all that to go down with Will. And he had to make it a deal or else he would be doing an act of good and... The whole purpose of him becoming a demon was to be with the man he loved... Deceit."

"I don't care, Roman. I just don't want you getting hurt again." Roman's eyes snapped up in shock as Virgil shifted anxiously. "I don't like that... you had to do that to yourself just help me. I mean... The wind even said you recanted."

"Shit..." Virgil tensed up eyes wide as Roman just sighed. "I was actually hoping to tell you personally."

"You did... YOU FUCKING RECANTED!" Roman nodded as Virgil stumbled back making Roman jump in concern.

"Virgil?" Virgil collapsed into a chair as he just heaved a heavy pant. "VIRGIL!"

"I'm fine! I'm just... shocked... and confused... and... I don't know." Roman nodded as he slowly sat down beside him. "You recanted? When... why?"

"Yesterday... after I made the deal and you were brought back... I brought you to the ocean and just... I don't know. I was still reeling over everything." Virgil just sat there listening as Roman spoke softly. "I realized I just didn't care anymore. I don't care about going home."

"Bullshit."

"I don't care about going home." Roman repeated a tad more forcefully making Virgil's eyes narrow. "I don't. Right now, the only thing I want... is for you to get what you want. We're friends Virgil. I care about you."

"Friends... right." Virgil scoffed as he looked away and rolled his eyes. "You seem to be doing a lot that puts you at a disadvantage just to help me."

"I gave you my word."

"Your word doesn't mean shit if you end up dead." Roman reeled back as Virgil just gave him a very done look. "I understand a god will literally move a mountain just to keep their word but you need to remember, god or not, you aren't immortal anymore."

"Trust me... I know." Virgil sighed as he nodded and looked away again. "Back to planning..." Roman leaned over the table and pointed over at this little dot on the island there was one. "We're going to need to get there plane."

"No."

"Virgil."

"I SAID NO!" Virgil's voice warped shocking the other as Virgil just shook his head. "I can't do that. I can barely do a boat. I cannot go on a plane!"

"We don't have a choice, Virgil." Roman frowned as Virgil just sat there frozen. "The federation has that place under a complete lockdown. If we attempted to go by boat we would be captured. The Federation has been dying to get their hands on me. They won't miss an opportunity like that. I'm sorry but... We have to go by plane. I can't teleport anymore."

"Roman, I can't. I can't. I... The ocean is something I know. I know it will protect me. I GOT THROWN OVER A RAILING THE FIRST BOAT I WENT ON!" Roman's eyes flashed as Virgil shook horribly. "I've never been on a plane. I've never been in the air. I can't. I just can't."

"Hey, now, Virgil... the wind isn't going to let anything happen. Right?" Virgil's eyes slowly met with Roman's, who was smiling fondly at the other. "You've got the ocean and the wind in your corner. I know it will protect you. Nothing is going to happen. And... As an added bonus..." Roman took Virgi's hands with glowing pink eyes making Virgil relax under his gaze. "I'll be right there with you. I've proven how much I care about you right? I won't let a thing happen. Virgil..."

"You've given your word." Virgil's eyes darkened only for Roman to squeeze his hand softly drawing his attention to him.

"I'm going to protect you... because I want to protect, not because I have to since I promised. Virgil, we're friends." Virgil tore his hands from Roman's with this look in his eyes as he pushed himself up.

"No, we aren't." Roman flinched as his heart twinged in pain. "We aren't friends, Roman. We literally 'came together' for a purpose. You promised you would help me save Thomas...."

"And I will..."

"BECAUSE I promised to help you get home. Roman, you're the one that pissed Thomas off. You said you would kill me..." Roman gasped as his heart broke more making Virgil freeze up. "You said you would kill me."

"I didn't... mean..." Roman panted as he curled into himself. "Please, stop. Please?"

"Roman?"

"I said I was sorry... I thought..." Roman whimpered as he held his chest tightly. "I thought we got passed this. I thought... I thought I proved I didn't... I didn't..." Virgil dropped to his knees reaching out to force Roman to meet his eyes. He tensed up feeling the intense pain Roman was in and he frowned. "I'm sorry. I really am, Virgil. Virgil, please...Please just stop. Stop talking about it. Stop... I can't... I..."

"Why did you recant?" Roman's eyes narrowed as his teary gaze finally met with Virgil's serious one. "If you want me to trust you completely... I need to know. The only reason you joined me was so that I could get you home. Now that I don't have to..."

"I don't care..."

"I do." Virgil's grip on Roman's wrist tightened as he forced the exgod to uncurl. "I don't know what you want. Your motivation... Why are you so adamant about helping me... and don't say it's because you promised."

"Virgil..."

"What would you do if I just recanted?" Roman's eyes went wide as Virgil's eyes filled with anxiety. "If I recanted, you wouldn't have to protect me anymore. You wouldn't have to do shit."

"It wouldn't matter."

"I don't know that. Roman, You swore you'd hurt me..."

"AND THEN I PROMISED I NEVER WOULD!" Virgil frowned as Roman snapped and grabbed both his wrists with tears falling faster. "I will NEVER hurt you Virgil. I don't want to. I don't care about going home. I only care about you."

"Why?"

"Virgil, please..." Roman whined as he subconsciously pulled Virgil's arms closer, just wanting all of this to be over. "I care about you. We're friends. Even if you did recant It wouldn't change a thing. I gave you my word because I wanted to not because of the deal. Please..."

"Why?"

"God damn it Virgil, It's because I..." Roman froze up eyes locked with Virgil's as he realized just how close he was. He couldn't move. He couldn't speak. Virgil's eyes narrowed as they slowly trailed down to Roman's lips and back up again. "It's because I... I..." The two leaned in a bit more only for Roman to flinch and look away. "I gave you my word." Roman forced through his teeth as he desperately tried to stave off his pain. "Get dressed, Virgil. We're going shopping."

"Ok."
