"WAIT, THOMAS..." Virgil jumped with a start only to freeze seeing the fear and relief plastered all over Logan's face. "Wait... Father?" His eyes darted about the room spotting Joan asleep on the chair and he frowned. They were both clearly distraught over something. "What..."
"Thank god." Logan collapsed onto the bed pulling a stunned Virgil into his arms as he actually cried. "You're awake... you're ok... Wait." Logan jumped back, checking Virgil over as best he could before Virgil lightly pushed him away. "You are ok, right? Te Ka didn't hurt you?"
"I'm fine, Sir." Virgil pushed himself against the headboard looking around again before narrowing his eyes. "Where's Dad?"
"Are you sure you're ok, Virgil? Te Ka wasn't exactly gentle. He literally threw you into your nightstand and then... You were in pain and I... I just want to make sure you're ok, Son." Virgil's eyes narrowed noticing the way Logan's hands were shaking.
"Father... Where's Dad?" Logan tensed as Virgil examined his body language. He knew Logan well enough to know when something was wrong. "Where is Dad? I know I heard him."
"I just don't understand why Thomas would do this. I don't understand what was going through his head. Even if he was Te Ka again, I would have thought he wouldn't have dreamed of hurting you..."
"LOGAN!" Logan froze as Virgil yelled out causing the wind to spike and wake Joan up. "Where is Patton?"
"He's sick." Logan's face filled with horror as Virgil's expression fell. Joan let out a broken breath as they moved over to sit on the bed beside their friend. "Patton is sick, Virgil."
"I don't understand. What happened?" Joan and Logan shared a look that only made Virgil's chest twinge. "Thomas?"
"It seems as though Te Ka is... undoing Te Fiti's blessings." Virgil's eyes went wide as his hand immediately went to find his own pulse out of subconscious fear, making Logan narrow his eyes in concern. "Vir..."
"Thomas is... taking back everything he's done." Virgil shook his head trying to get himself to stop fearing over himself and focus back to the real problem. "How does that affect the island?"
"I'm not concerned about..."
"Thomas is the one that created this island if you remember the legend. Te Fiti found a place of barren land and gave it life. He planted trees and watched it flourish. He led the first chief here and proudly watched the land grow and thrive under the careful hands of our people." Logan cringed as Virgil glared over at him. "As chief, our responsibility is to the island and the people we protect and care for. If Thomas is taking back everything he's done than the island..."
"Virgil, I understand you're worried..."
"You misunderstand me." Logan faltered as Virgil pushed himself up, straightening his outfit as he stared at his father with the poise and professionalism he's learned over the years. "I do not want to know because I'm scared. Father, I merely want to know how long I have to set things right." Joan literally fell in shock as Virgil's eyes began to glow. "I have to get Thomas to sleep, and I have to do it before the island falls. How long before that happens?"
"You are not going anywhere near that damn dem..."
"Unfortunately Father, I was not asking for your permission," Virgil smirked as the window blasted open, wind whipping around as he glared the chief down. "I will do this, and you can't stop me this time."
"Virgil, I cannot let you leave this island. It's not sa..."
"Again, it is not your decision to make."
"Virgil..."
"I've made up my mind."
"NO."
"YES!"
"Virgil, I am your father..."
"Except you aren't." Logan froze instantly as Virgil's voice echoed throughout the room. Joan slowly stepped back afraid to get in the middle of whatever this happened to be. Virgil sighed as he shook his head. "You aren't my father... Thomas is."
"Excuse me?" Logan and Virgil both shot Joan this look, clearly saying stay out of it as Virgil raked a hand through his hair.
"Sir... I'm not saying you don't care about me. I know you do. I'm not saying I don't see you as my father. It's just... Thomas literally gave me my life and now he's in trouble and I have to try. I have to... You and Patton will always be my dads. That will never change but now I know where I came from. I don't have a choice."
"If you think I'm being stubborn... Patton is going to flip when he..." Logan stopped, pause right in the middle of his sentenced and Virgil tensed. "When he... When... If he, uh..."
"Can I see him?" Logan seemed to deflate as Virgil brushed his hand over Logan's arm.
"He's not... He's well, Virgil." Virgil sighed before smiling up at Logan to ease the pain a small bit. "Are you sure you're up for it?" Virgil nodded as he stuffed his hands into his pockets.
"Please? I want to see him." Logan nodded although hesitantly before shifting and walking out the door. Virgil started to follow only to freeze seeing his reflection in the mirror. He was paler than he usually was. He had dark bags under his eyes too. But what really caught his attention was his mark. Against his pale skin, it was easier to see, but on top of that, there was what looked like the makings of blanked veins beginning to branch out. He quickly shifted his hoodie hiding the veins as he stumbled to catch up to Logan. When they made it to the door Virgil could feel this cold feeling hit him hard. Logan stepped aside allowing Virgil to go in. The younger one slowly opened the door only to freeze as Logan grabbed his arm.
"Before you go... Just..." Logan let out a shaky breath as tears slowly fell from his eyes. "I want to see you off. I can understand you might be angry with us over Thomas but... You are my son." Virgil smiled as he nodded. "I love you, Virgil."
"I love you too, Father." Virgil watched as Logan walked off and his smile fell. His skin crawled feeling the cold air rush over him. He took a deep breath before making his way in to find Patton laying there in bed.
It wasn't pretty.
