It was officially Heather's fourth day in the hospital. We were still hoping that we could do it. This morning I had to sneak Mark out the apartment before sneaking myself out. Luckily Kennedy wasn't there when I left which was a great thing. When I got to work I changed before checking in with Heather. I was waiting for Iz to come, so was everyone else so Bailey paged her. "Dr. Bailey, you paged me?" She asked while coming in the room.

"Yes, I did." Bailey said while looking at her.

"We're going to proceed with Heather's surgery, as scheduled." Derek said to her, we all looked at Iz waiting for what she would say next.

"The insurance company changed their mind?" Iz asked them.

"No. Better." Ms. Douglas said with a big smile.

"It seems an anonymous donor has offered to foot Heather's entire bill." Bailey said to us, whoever it was must be loaded.

"Wow. That's incredible. You're a very lucky girl." Iz said with a big smile on her face.

"Hey, that's the first time anyone's ever said that sentence to me in my entire life. I like it." Heather said with a smile, I think we knew who paid. It was Izzie, I could tell from that smile. Bailey and Iz left the room to talk leaving the rest of us to stay behind and talk about the procedure. We prepped her and then took her down. We scrubbed in and then started the procedure.

"Drill. Another screw, please." Derek said as we were in the O.R. Derek started putting the screw in, we were making excellent progress. Me and Callie looked up at one point and saw George and Mer rush out. It must've been important. "Retractor." Derek said.

"Um, Dr. Shepherd can you proceed without me?" Callie asked him.

"Are you kidding me? This is your surgery, Torres, this is your find, and you want to leave?" Derek asked her, but this was serious.

"I, um, I don't, but, uh, yes, I'm sorry. But if it's all right, I need to leave." Callie said earning a nod from Derek, she began to leave.

"Give me some sponges, lap sponges." Derek said, I handed them to him. I wish that I could be with George. When the surgery ended it was late so I only had a few hours of my shift. When I got home Kennedy was sleeping on the settee. I decided to quickly have something from the fridge before having a shower and heading to bed.

When I got to work today, something still felt off but I still didn't know what was going to happen. I had heard the George's dad was going into renal failure. I was hoping for best for Mr. O'Malley but I don't think that he was going to get better. I was doing some paperwork for Heather. Afterwards I went to sit with George and Mrs. O'Malley. I noticed that Ms. Douglas was there as well.

"You have family here?" Mrs. O'Malley asked Ms. Douglas.

"Yeah, a daughter. She's 17." Ms. Douglas replied, me and George were just flickering through magazines.

"Oh, I'm so sorry." Mrs. O'Malley said to her.

"Yeah. She had surgery on her spine. And they said it went well. But then she has troubles with her kidneys and...well, she hasn't woken up." Ms. Douglas said, I was hoping that Heather would wake up and get better.

"My husband either." Mrs. O'Malley said, she sounded like she was going to burst out crying.

"It was a dangerous surgery. They told us that." Ms. Douglas said, I felt bad for both of them.

"My husband's, too. He has...cancer, so...I was surprised when they went through with it. I thought I'd be taking him home." Mrs. O'Malley said to us. I saw Iz approaching us.

"Excuse me, Mrs. Douglas. Heather is asking for you." Iz said to Ms. Douglas with a smile. I'm glad that Heather was okay.

"She woke up?" Mrs. O'Malley asked Iz.

"She did. And she looks great." Iz said to them with a smile, I looked at George's who's face had changed.

"Congratulations. That's wonderful." Mrs. O'Malley told Ms. Douglas.

"Good luck. I'll...good luck." Ms. Douglas said to her with a reassuring smile.

"Thanks." Mrs. O'Malley said to her before her and Iz walked off. George got up and left.

"George..." I said but he was gone.

"Y/n, you don't have to stay here with me. Go and work." Mrs. O'Malley said to me, her voice breaking.

"No, I want to. I don't know if George told you this, but I've been married in the past. But my first husband, he passed away. I was 17 almost 18. It was the hardest thing ever. But listen to me, what ever happens, you are more than welcome to find me. You can call me if you need to." I said to Mrs. O'Malley with a smile and tears in my eyes. We both stood up and I hugged her.

"You're an amazing friend to George, he is so lucky to have you." Mrs. O'Malley said to me, I stayed with her for a bit longer until George came back. I then went to check on Heather who was happy to see me. I was on call so I went to an on call room and slept for a bit. Only having to get a few times in the night.

~~~~~~~~
When it was the morning I got myself a cup of coffee and a doughnut before going to see Heather. She was doing well, I'd heard about Mr. O'Malley. I shedded a few tears for him, Mr. O'Malley was an amazing father and person as to what I had seen from the few odd occasions that we'd crossed paths. I went to see Kennedy to try and distract myself. When I was done I stood next to Callie. George walked out of his dad's room then he walked past us. Me and Cristina went after him. We followed him all the way outside.
"There's a club- -the dead dad's club- -and you can't be in it until you're in it. You can try and understand, you can sympathize, but until you feel that loss...my dad died when I was 9. George...I'm really sorry you had to join the club." Cristina told him, there was another club as well. One that I was in, it was called the dead lovers club. Something that Iz and now Mrs. O'Malley was in.
"I...I don't know how to exist in a world where my dad doesn't." George told us.
"I thought the same when I lost my husband and let me tell you this, it never changes." I said to him, that feeling I had was now gone. My bad feeling was about Mr. O'Malley. After me and Cristina had spent some time with George we decided it was best to let him be by himself for a bit. We both changed before I went to find Mrs. O'Malley. When I found her I pulled her into a hug immediately. When I got home that night, I pulled Kennedy into a hug and just cried.
"What's wrong?" She asked me.
"I never want mum and dad to die." I said to her, she must've heard the news about George's dad. We kinda just sat down and talked about everything. These last 6 days couldn't have been worse.
