I thought today was going to be another usual work day, just some broken bones and whatever but I was so wrong. When I got to work I saw Alex and we both went to get coffee together. It was getting to the point where I was getting closer to him then I was with Mer and Cristina and George, which is odd. We went different ways and I went to see Callie. We got paged to the pit and I rounded my interns up before putting a trauma gown on and heading inside.
"What do we got?" Webber asked while walking inside.
"A gas main blew in an apartment building. Five injured, some badly." Callie said to us, she was talking to George before so I decided not to bother her.
"Excellent. Horrible. It's horrible. Sad." Cristina said to us, making me smile a little.
"Marla Kristler, 34-year-old female, abdomen blown out, skull fracture, third-degree burns over at least 40% of her body." We were told.
"Okay, I got this. Open O.R. two. Page Dr. Shepherd. Torres, triage the rest." Webber said before walking inside.
"Yes, sir. Yang, you're with the chief. Go." Callie said to them whilst me and her waited for the others to arrive. The next ambulance came and I heard a kid crying. The doors opened up and the paramedic carried the kids out with the father behind.
"My wife- -she cane in another ambulance. Is she here? Where- -where'd they take her?" He asked me and Callie.
"Yeah, yeah. She'll be going straight to surgery. Sir, are you injured?" Callie asked him but he wasn't concerned about himself.
"No, my son!" He said, we followed him inside.
"18 months old, contusions possible head injury. B.P. and pulse are elevated." The paramedic told us.
"Y/n you're on this case. Karev!" She shouted, another case with Alex. That didn't bother me at all, we were both like the new Nazi anyway.
"I'm supposed to be on plastics." He said to her.
"I'll take it." Iz said raising her hand, she already was working with someone.
"I called Karev. You're with the Kristlers." She said to them before beginning to walk. Alex came over to me.
"Wh-what about me?" I heard Iz ask through the crying. Me and Alex started examining the kid. I waved Derek over and we told him what happened.
"How close to the explosion was he?" Derek asked, this could wasn't going to stop crying anytime soon.
"Oh, we were, uh, we were in the living room, his mom was in the kitchen." Mr. Kristler said to us, I looked at his expression, he couldn't tell if he was lying or not.
"The gas line just blew?" I asked him.
"I-I think it was the stove." Mr. Kristler said back to me.
"All right, we're gonna run some tests on your baby. Karev, Y/l/n, I'm going into surgery with the chief. Keep me posted." Derek said to us before walking away.
"Will do." I shouted at him. Luckily all the interns were working in the pit today so that should be nice.
"Come on, B. It's okay. Brain, I'm here. It's okay, sweetheart. Brain, stop crying, baby. I can't- -I cant think, baby. I'm- -why won't he stop crying?" Mr. Kristler said, I picked up Brian.
"Whoa. Hey there, Brian. You're a big boy aren't you, what kind of work out are you doing? You really are taking good care of yourself." I said to him, Alex was trying to calm him down as well.
"Dr. Karev, Dr. Y/l/n." One of Alex's interns said coming over to us. "C.T. results. Should I page Shepherd?" She said once she got our attention.
"No, he's in surgery. Let me take a look." Alex said while taking the scan.
