54. Scars And Souvenirs

It had been a little while. Carlos was getting stronger everyday, I was hoping that today I could try and get him to transfer into a chair. I did my usual morning rounding before going to work. When I got there I changed before seeing the Malone's. I knocked on their room door.

"Oh, Dr. Y/l/n, it's good to see this morning. How have you been?" Mrs. Malone asked me, she was the only one here.

"I've been good but how has Carlos been?" I asked her with a smile.

"He's sleeping but he's fine." She said to me with a smile.

"I'm hoping that we can try and get him to transfer to a wheelchair today but I've got go quickly. I'll be back when he's awake." I said to her with a smile.

"Okay, I'll see you a bit later then." She said before I left, I walked back in the locker room with Bailey.

"Does anyone know who the new chief candidate is?" Cristina asked, there's another candidate.

"The chief's bringing in a ringer in case he doesn't want to give the job to either of your boyfriends." George said while looking at me, Mer and Cristina.

"O'Malley, you're with Shepherd today. Yang, Dr. Montgomery. Stevens, to the clinic. Karev, Jane Doe. Y/l/n, Mr. Malone. Grey, scut." Bailey said telling us what we were doing, it wasn't going to be great helping Carlos all day.

"Once again, I am fine." Meredith said to her.

"You can tell everybody you fine till you're blue in your face. Your mom died, and you almost joined her. You're taking it easy." Bailey said, don't remind me of that god awful day. I went back to the peds ward. I asked is I could have a few games for him because he was probably bored.

"I'm back." I said with a smile, I saw that Carlos was up now so I smiled at him.

"That's great. Can you sit with him while I go and get some breakfast." Mrs. Malone said to me I nodded at her.

"Of course, I'm sure that me and him can play one of these games I found." I said while smiling at him, he gave me a smile back. I sat with him and played connect-4 with him while waiting for his mum to come back. Afterwards I went to do some lurking about who this candidate was.

"You guys seen Bailey?" Iz asked while approaching us. "What are we doing?" She asked seeming as she didn't get an answer.

"Uh, checking out the new chief candidate." George said to her, we were trying to peak into the room but it was no use.

"Chief's in with the ringer. We're lurking in a way that was subtle when it was three of us. But isn't now that it's 13." Meredith said to her.

"I heard it was someone from Stanford. All the professors there loved me." Cristina said to us, was I hearing that right.

"They loved you? All of them?" I asked her.

"I was a great student." She said to me. Burke came over and approached us.

"How you doing, Grey?" He asked her.

"Oh, I'm fine, sir. Thank you." Mer asked that mistake because she hated being asked that.

"Move, move, move." Cristina said while pushing him out the way.

"She doesn't like it when people ask." George told him in a whisper.

"The ringers in there with the chief." Cristina told him.

"Yeah, and whoever it is loves Cristina because everyone at Stanford just loved Cristina." Iz said in a mocking tone making me smile a little.
