The Break Up Freak

Chapter 6

The next few days passed before our eyes like they weren't even happening. The office still ran smoothly like there hadn't even been any changes. Well apart from the new employees from Shuiqiao and our employees being allocated to respective companies, everything else was normal. Mr. Pigheaded guy hadn't shown his face, but Of coarse that didn't stop business. In fact it was for the best that he never shows his face. I didn't want the way Arturo and Estella kept asking me about him as if I knew anything. I almost blamed myself for lying to Estella but I knew that it was for the best.

Today was Thursday and I was sitting in my favorite coffee shop for my lunch break. Every time this week Estella talked to me on phone I could hear the jitters in her voice as if it was her going for the nonexistent date tomorrow.  A smile escaped my lips involuntarily.

"Finally I find you." A deep voice startled me from my thoughts and my heartbeat picked up when I looked in front of me to see Antonio sitting there with an angry look on his face.

"What are you doing here?"I asked with my chin raised despite the turmoil going on inside. Has he been following me?

"Of all questions, that is the only one you can ask me, Leticia?" His voice mirrored the look on his face.

"What else do you want me to ask you?" I asked in confusion.

"How about asking how I am? If I am hurting or okay?" His voice almost broke at the end. I looked through him without blinking. I couldn't afford to look him straight in the eyes because he would get hurt more by what he would see there. I wasn't even feeling sorry for this poor man. Why couldn't he understand that I was never serious with him? And I showed that to him from the beginning so wherever did he get the idea that we would stay together forever,  that wasn't my concern anyway. Was I that hard hearted?

"I was clear in my text Antonio, I didn't want to see you again." I told him.

"Why?" Okay now he was annoying me.

"Because I am not interested in relationships, I told you from the beginning, we just went to simple dates, why are you attaching yourself to me?"

"Because I lov...."

"Enough." I stopped him before he blurted out anymore stupid words. "I was clear enough in my texts but you wanted a physical break up, and now that you have found me alright, here goes. Leave me alone. I don't want you, I don't even like you."

"Then why did you treat me so right? Why were you nice to me?" Gosh, men were so dumb. I stopped myself from rolling my eyes.

"Because that is my nature, I treat everyone nicely, Okay? Move on." I stood from my seat but suddenly sat down, remembering something important "How did you find me?"

He looked at me without blinking, "I have my ways. But don't worry, I won't bother you again." he stood up and took a few steps towards the door then stopped and turned, "One last question, Was it what I did or you really have a problem?"

I sighed loudly, "Of coarse at that time I was interested, it's just that I realised I didn't want a relationship at all. I think I have a mental problem." I told him slowly praying for him to believe that crap I just spewed out.

"That's all I wanted to know." he suddenly smiled. "See you around Leticia Powers." He turned back and bounced out of the shop. Gosh he knew my last name too? Should I be worried? I pondered on it for Sometime but realised it was really nothing. Antonio was a man who loved himself too much and couldn't afford doing something stupid that would jeopardize his life. I waited for some time then picked up my stuff and went back to the office.

"Why does it look like you just came from a hangover party?" Arturo's voice interrupted my advance towards my office. What the heck was a hangover party?

"I'm probably from one?" I answered him with a smile.

"Is that a question to a question?"

"Stop being weird." I scowled at him and continued to my office but him being Arturo, he followed me.

"So, are you ready for tomorrow's date?" he asked with a smile.

"Am I always the point of discussion with your wife to be?" I grinned victoriously when I saw the scared look on his face. He had bought a ring a year ago to propose to Estella but he had always freaked out.

"Please don't go there." he begged.

"No, let's finish that then I can really tell you about my date. When are you going to propose to Estella?" I mean, four years together and they weren't married? I felt that that was crazy. I mean Of coarse sooner or later they will break up but it was good to experience married life before they broke up.

"I haven't found the right time."

"What about we plan this weekend. I go for my date on Friday then on Sunday we make arrangements and you surprise Estella? I know she will be over the moon."

"Hmmm."

"So, deal?"

"I don..."

"Deal or no deal?" I widened my already big eyes at him.

"Alright, deal." he grinned. 

"Good boy. You have two days to control your emotions."

"Right, now tell me about your date. Why hasn't he shown appearance this week?"

"Probably he is as shy as you are?"

"I don't believe that."

"He is too busy caught up with something." I said off handedly and went to look through the window to avoid Arturo's gaze. "He was supposed to come in this Tuesday but he sent me a message saying he won't be able to. But by next week he would have completed everything and he will surely be here." I turned back with a smile.

"Good enough." Arturo smiled back. "This better not end in a disaster though. We need this merger to work for a long time. So are you sure you are ready to have a serious relationship that won't affect our company?"

'No.' my brain said. "Of coarse, also the relationship has nothing to do with the company Arturo. We are grown up people. We Should be able to handle this." I gave him a wink.

"I believe you." he came forward and rested both hands on my shoulders.

"You should. I can never put our company at risk." I looked him straight or rather with his 6feet to my 5, I looked him diagonally in the eyes.

And at the very moment, probably the universe convicting me of my sin there and then. The door opened and none other than Mr. Pigheaded man came in.

"Am I interrupting something?" he stood there in all his arrogancy looking straight at us. At first we were confused by what he meant until we remembered our close proximity which Of coarse to other people seemed suspicious.

"Oh." Arturo suddenly removed his hands, probably remembering that the man standing before us was going to be my date tomorrow and there might be something more in future. "You are not interrupting anything." he said with a smile then turned to me confused. "Are you sure he said last week?" he whispered.

"I guess I read the message wrong." I whispered back not missing the narrowing of someone's eyes.

"Okay, I gotta go then, don't be naughty." Arturo winked at me then walked towards the door. "She's all yours." He said to the confused man standing by the door. I almost laughed at his clueless face. Ha ha ha, this was going to be fun.
