"Can you stop trying to drown me for five minutes!" Happy yelled the moment I neared the pool.
I watched as Sam and Clint worked together and tipped Happy's floaty again, but this time they tag teamed to dunk him under the water. Steve face palmed while Wanda, Jake, and Tony laughed in the pool at the scene. When Happy resurfaced and began grumbling at the two bird brains, Steve stepped in and helped diffuse the situation.
As I followed behind Nat, my attention was on the water. I stared at the liquid taunting me whereas Nat quirked a brow at the scene and ignored their antics.
"Guys leave Happy alone," Pepper tried to mom them from her place at the pool chairs.
At the sound of her voice, I finished staring at the pool and looked up, meeting her warm gaze. She offered a smile and patted the chairs on either side of her for me and Natasha to sit.
"Come enjoy the sun before it sets. Try to ignore them too while you're at it," she joked while gesturing to the action going on in the pool.
Now Clint and Sam were doing a breath holding competition and Clint was winning. Steve was bickering with Sam saying that's not a good game to play considering one of them could drown, and since Sam clearly came up just to watch Clint go, but Sam shrugged in reply. Jake looked like he was acting referee and encouraging the silliness while Tony and Happy floated to the shallow end on their floaties. Wanda seemed to notice Vision sitting by himself on the edge of the pool and waded over to him, the pair looking like they hit it off with a conversation. When I turned to look at Rhodey, he seemed nearly done with the burgers, so I had a feeling he would join the madness sooner or later.
"Yeah. It's going to be difficult to ignore them," I smiled at everyone's crazy ways and looked to Pepper again.
"My word of advice: earplugs," Natasha joked, but I could tell she may have been serious. Regardless, all three of us laughed.
A comfortable silence remained between us as the others splashing around in the pool acted as white noise. We sat back in the chairs and soaked up the sun for a good ten minutes, nothing spoken between us in the span of time. And I was honestly thankful Pepper didn't question or mention my strange behaviour around the pool or why I didn't want to go in the pool.
"Food's ready!" Rhodey hollered from the house, causing the three of us to simultaneously turn and acknowledge his announcement.
The others jumping around in the pool stopped playing and acknowledged his announcement as well. Clint dunked Sam under and got a head start, causing the bird brain to call "no fair" like a kid. Tony and Happy, being the closest to the shallow end, got off their floaties and made it out of the pool before Clint could. Steve, Jake, Wanda, and Vision decided to take to the sides to get out rather the shallow ended exit, so they climbed out effortlessly. Wanda actually levitated out of the pool with Vision next to her.
Dinner was a blur to me after that point. We ate until our stomachs were full, mine uncomfortably filled with steak and mashed potatoes, then decided to wash up and watch a movie. We were supposed to do Smores, but Tony forgot to buy Graham crackers so he said we'd postpone the smores for tomorrow night.
It was when we got back down in the living room to watch the movie is when I think my mind gravitated back to earth. We were seated, or rather getting comfortable around the couch due to us all not being able to fit on it, as we awaited Tony who was the last one to get ready. Pepper, Wanda, Natasha, Happy, Sam and I were scattered on the couch while the others were scattered on the floor with cushions or blankets.
