"Does everybody live under rocks?" Tony questioned as we ate Shawarma.
"Ha ha," I laughed dryly at his double barreled joke upon seeing Wanda's confused face. He just smirked in return.
We were all seated by the dining table enjoying the famous meal and passing jokes or comments about the IKEA trip. Starting from one head of the table then going around sat Tony, Rhodey, Nat, Wanda, Jake, myself, Sam, Steve, and Vision. Although Vision wasn't having any food, he joined for the conversation.
"So. . . What do you think about it?" I asked Wanda while everyone else was either chewing, or having a light mini conversation of their own.
"It tastes good. . . The sauce reminds me of Paprikash."
I think everyone, including myself, stopped chewing and chatting because of Wanda's strange word. It wasn't a dead silence, rather a dimming of voices and some glances while they chewed.
"Papri-what?" I asked.
"Paprikash. . . It's a Sokovian dish."
There was a noticeable change in everyone's actions after the mention of Sokovia. The glances became awkward avoiding glances and the chewing stopped.
Now there was a dead silence.
But I broke it the second it happened.
"Ohh alrighty. . . What's it like?" I genuinely asked.
I honestly wanted to know about Sokovia and her life there because although it may be a sore spot, it's something that shouldn't be swept under the rug. It was her home.
Wanda smiled immediately after my question. "Its like a. . . Well it's kind of like a stew, but it's mainly made of potatoes and vegetables. . . Then we add our special seasonings, paprika included, and voila, Paprikash," she said with a warm smile while glancing around the table, explaining it to not only myself but everyone present.
Vision seemed to be very intrigued.
"This Paprikash. . . It is a Sokovian dish of traditional culture?"
"Yeah. . . We make it for special occasions or whenever we want. It's our national dish," She answered.
Vision gave a nod. . . But I can see some gears turning in his head.
"Well, I don't know what this Paprikash is but I'm sure it tastes good," I chimed before taking another bite of my food. . . I realized I only had two bites and it seemed like Jake, Steve AND Sam noticed too. . . I'm still getting used to eating a lot of food again.
"Maybe I can make it for you guys some day," Wanda offered with a small smile.
Everyone - who was eating or chewing - nodded their heads and hummed while everyone else said curt "yeahs" in agreement at the idea. A moment of silence passed over the table because everyone had their mouths full, but then Tony piped up.
