"Hey guys, coming up on our destination." Clint hollers from the cockpit seat.
I get to my feet and throw back on my jacket, glancing over to see Steve staring at me with that same look he's always been giving me since I told him about Bucky. And it's so weird saying his name, but I don't necessarily want to call him "dad" because that title might not suit him at the moment.
"What?" I ask him.
He shakes his head and goes back to fixing his gloves, averting his attention to the leather material he has been unstrapping and strapping for the past few hours. "Nothing. . ." He said quietly with a reminiscent smile.
I squint my eyes at him suspiciously then make my way over to the cockpit where Nat and Clint are, looking out the window to see the bustling city in South Korea. The technologically advanced city glints back at me in a welcoming manner when the sun hits it in the right spot. Only then does it occur to me that this job was pretty cool. We could travel the world and see new places. But at the same time it's for business purposes and saving the world. . . Not necessarily a good time to stop and smell the roses, but it counts.
Clint then maneuvers us over a few apartments that are near the main building that Dr. Cho works in and flicks some switches to steady our descent. I take that as our cue and head back over to Steve who hits the ramp button, waiting alongside him for the thing to lower.
"Alright, I'll swing around with Nat. You two be careful out there." Clint says as he flicks some switches above his head and puts the jet into hover mode.
"Copy that." Steve says into the comm, making sure it works.
Clint and Nat turn from their spots and watch us expectingly as I roll my jacket on my shoulders and he secures his shield onto his back. Then after the brief second, Steve hopped out on to the roof below. The two stare at me with a certain pride but also in a way to hurry up.
"Will do farmer Barton." I joke in the best worst country accent at his earlier comment before stepping backwards off the jet with my hand saluting them.
I land gracefully onto the roof and quickly look back up and wave as they fly off with the jet. Steve had already climbed up the railing, checking out the building before turning back to look at me.
"Two minutes. Stay close." He says into comms to Nat and Clint. "Let's go." He says in his Captain America orderly tone then jumped over the railing, getting a head start.
I roll my eyes then chase after him. I hop over the railing with ease and go into a tumble roll before getting back onto my feet, following his lead as we both run at our unnatural speed of over thirty miles per hour on the rooftops. When we got closer to the actual lab and stopped hopping on peoples homes and office buildings, we got onto solid ground and I used that to my advantage. I willed the asphalt beneath our feet to carry us the remaining distance, smirking to myself when the people nearby on the roads stare in awe. I remember seeing a flash and could only assume someone snapped a photo of me, the fact they did bothered me to some degree since I did not want to be all over the media like a circus freak. I had a very good track record of not being seen by the public when Jake and I still worked for Kane, and I wanted to keep it that way.
In two quick minutes, we reach the lab, and it's a mess. The fire alarms had went off and all that remained were the blinding red flashing lights spinning to warn anyone of what happened. Bodies littered the floor and I had to refrain from looking at them to hold the dread back, trying to convince myself that they were probably just knocked out.
