11 × Interrogations

After the surprise I gave, the soldiers escorted me and Jake down the hallway to another room. When we walked into it, the place reeked of an interrogation room. There was just one metal table with four metal chairs sitting around it in a plain empty room, and this one also had a one way mirror. When my eyes landed on it, I scoffed then turned back to the soldiers...

"They do know that I can hear them through that thing, right?" I asked while gesturing my hands to it.

They didn't acknowledge my question, instead, they guided me to the table and hooked my cuffs to it, doing the same for Jake's then pushed us down in the chairs harshly.

I kissed my teeth as they walked out, expressing my annoyance, then when they left, and the door clicked closed, I tried to listen carefully to the one way mirror just to see if anyone was chatting about us.

Nothing

I got bored after 10 seconds, so I turned to Jake and began a little interrogation of my own.

"So what was the tank for?"

"What?"

"The tank. If it is a biological weapon, what was Kane going to do with it? Unleash it on a populated area? Turn us all into killer mutant ninja turtles?" I asked jokingly but ended my tone on a more serious note.

"I don't know. He wouldn't have told me anyway" he uneasily retorted.

I dropped my facial expression to a straight face, then gave him a "really?" look. I then started to hear some chatter on the other side of the mirror, so I paused my conversation with him, then listened in on it.

"Why wouldn't they have been informed by Kane about the tanks purposes? Shouldn't they know, if they are apart of..." The person started to get quiet, so I guess they caught me ease dropping. I quickly turned back to Jake and continued with our conversation.

"So your saying that he could have told you?"

"Yeah......but he didn't"

"So he was going to tell you, but then he didn't, and so that means he could have told you, but he's hiding something from you AND me, anddddddddddd... we were played?" I tried to sum up the whole situation but sucked with the conclusion.

"Ugh, YES he was going to tell me, YES he decided not to tell me when the other guys showed up, MAYBE he's hiding something, and NO we were not played" he took his time answering my questions, but when he said "other guys" that raised my suspicions up to a 8 on my personal "suspicious meter".

"Other guys?"

When I brought it to his attention, he looked at me with a shocked expression and then was trying to hide it by nervously looking away. I caught it though, and pressed this delicate topic.

"Jake...who were the other guys? And don't try to play them off as the gang because WE both know that we just say "gang"" I scolded him like a mother scolding her misbehaved child.

He slowly turned his attention back to me, but it then turned to a cold icy glare when he did.

"The same people I told you earlier" he mumbled softly. "The ones that led Kane into threatening me with you as leverage. The same ones that would have taken you away if I hadn't of taken the job. The same ones that would have taken pleasure into seeing me break at the sight of your lifeless body-" he started to explain harshly, but when he spat those last words, his voice cracked as if he was holding back tears. "They threatened to kill you, and I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if you died because of me" he growled at himself without looking at me.
