Taking over as captain of the Cheerio's had been my dream ever since I joined the squad, although Quinn and I had spoken about it, it still felt wrong for me to take her position. When we first became friends, she planned that when she graduated, I would take over as captain and I agreed to that plan. But that was before she got pregnant and things changed.
The other girls were happy that I was taking over because I had new ideas for choreography and I wasn't afraid to voice opinions to our coach even though she did scare me. Not even Santana and Brittany were upset, which I thought they would be because they were good enough to be captains, they just didn't want that pressure and wanted to focus on other things, like the Glee Club.
Everything was fitting into place as I started the warm up for practise, Coach Sylvester was watching us like a hawk as we stretched; but then I noticed a familiar face sitting on the bleachers, watching us prepare for practise.
"Isn't that Quinn?"
I tried to keep the girls focused on our practise but now they had spotted the girl that used to be captain, things changed and they wanted to acknowledge the major change that had happened pretty much overnight.
"Why isn't Quinn captain anymore?"
"She's pregnant, everyone knows."
Coach Sylvester was distracted for a moment when some other Glee Club kids entered the gym and she went to shout at them to make them leave, thinking they were spying on our practise even though we all knew that they weren't.
"Why did Olivia get the position, she's the newest member?"
Santana rolled her eyes. "Coach Sue gave her the role, so if you're going to question it then you're questioning her authority. Do you want me to let her know that her entire squad are questioning her authority?"
That made them stop complaining and carry on working, but there was one girl in particular who wasn't happy with the decision, she had joined the squad the same time as Quinn and had thought that she would be offered the position.
"What does Quinn have to say about this?"
"She's fine." I replied, trying to get back on track with the warmup.
"She's obviously not fine, she's watching us from the bleachers. Was she happy about Schuester getting captain?"
"Okay, listen up Hobbit, has this position because she's actually good, the same can't be said about you. And not that it's any of your business but Quinn wanted her to be captain, she came up with the idea. So, take a seat and shut your mouth, before I do it for you."
The girl listened to Santana, obviously scared of her and I would be too if she wasn't my friend. The other girls also took the hint and stayed quiet, knowing the reasons why I was captain and happy to let it go as long as Santana didn't hurt them.
