Dad had been acting weird lately, coming home later than usual which meant that I was left in the apartment with Emma by myself longer than we were used to. At first, I thought it would be awkward but I was getting to know her better and she was a lot easier to talk to than I thought. I thought as a councillor, she would be analysing everything I said but she was someone to joke with and she was very organised so she helped me study.
Accidentally, she let it slip that Dad had been going to some night school sessions to make sure that his Spanish was good enough for him to continue teaching in McKinley; after a complaint had been made about his lack of knowledge on the language. The complaint was somehow correct as Dad didn't want to be a Spanish teacher; his passion was music but he had taken the position because he had needed to provide for his family at the time.
I just wished that he felt that he could talk to me about it, I wasn't going to be embarrassed if he left his teaching job to pursue something in the arts. I mean, he almost did when April Rhodes wrote her own musical and offered the role to my Dad; when he had rejected it, we all knew he'd made a mistake but he didn't want to hear about what could have happened. He wanted to focus on the Glee Club and making sure that this year we won Nationals.
He strutted into the choir room, excited about whatever lesson he had planned for us as he began writing on the white board. "Alright guys! Let me ask you something. Where do you think you'll be in the year 2030?"
"Broadway!" Rachel and Kurt sung at the same time before smiling at each other. "Twins!"
Artie raised his hand. "Walking!"
"In jail, or dead, or both." Puck shrugged and we all silently agreed.
"Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, you're going to need to be able to speak Spanish. The reality is by 2030, more people on this planet will be speaking Spanish than any other language. The world is changing and that needs to be reflected in here. So, for our next assignment we're only doing songs written or performed by someone Latia. Or English songs performed bilingually."
"I'm bilingual." Brittany whispered, leaning into my side.
Santana frowned at my Dad. "Mr Schue, though I love that we're finally getting all Lima Sound Machine in here, why now?"
"It's long overdue. I love all things Latin!" He opened the door to the choir room, revealing a very good-looking man, entering the room. "Guys, this is David Martinez, David Martinez this is the Glee Club."
The girls in the club practically drooled over this man, even Santana, who had established her sexuality was interested in the handsome Latina that had just entered the room. David Martinez was something to stare at, I didn't even care what he was going to say to us, what he wanted to teach, he definitely had our attention.
"Oh my God. Cutest. Smile. Ever."
He smiled at us all, quickly scanning the room. "Hello everyone, it's a pleasure."
