It had spent three years trying to get to this moment. Sure, we had gotten to Nationals last year but this didn't feel the same. Last year we were new to everything and had no clue how the competition worked but now we understood what we needed to do and we knew that when we went to Nationals this year, we weren't going home without that trophy. We were going to win and we were going to enjoy every second of it. Last year we messed around when we went to New York and we didn't practise enough, we wrote our setlist days before the competition.
This year we were going to work hard continuously because we wanted the chance to prove to everyone that we were good enough to win. We were going to beat Vocal Adrenaline, even if they had the secret weapon of Unique and we were going to bring the trophy back to McKinley to put in our cabinet so that the whole school would see how talented we were.
"Nationals." Dad said and we all cheered. "Song selection: we'll be kicking off our Vintage theme with the legendary Jim Steinman's 'Paradise by the dashboard light.' Rachel will do the solo with, 'it's all coming-"
"-coming back to me now'. One of Celine Dion's most powerful ballads, inspired by Wuthering Heights." Rachel said excitedly, getting her solo after years of begging for one.
"And we'll be working in a new Troubletones number, utilizing the talents of our featured performer, Porcelina Hummel."
We all glanced back at Kurt, surprised that he had agreed to drag but he hadn't and he glared at Coach Sylvester. "Not going to happen, Dragon Lady."
"Oh, you'll do as your told he/she. We'll be performing, 'What a feeling' from Flash Dance and I'm familiar with the choreography, of course, because I was Jennifer Beale's dance double. And on that note, please look under your seats."
Excitedly we all looked under our seats and found a box of different things. I pulled out bright pink leg warmers whilst Sam was fascinated by the welding helmet that had been in his box.
"Welding helmets and leg warmers?" Finn asked, confused by our presents from Coach Sylvester.
"Best way to get props is to use props."
"I am your father." Sam said, wearing his welding mask and talking to Joe who didn't really understand the reference so I leaned over to help. "Darth Vader."
"Is that a movie?" He asked, looking at both of us who were shocked that he didn't know the reference.
"A healthy dose of props and our plucky transsexual Porcelina, and you are over the top"
Blaine twirled the helmet in his hands. "Aren't props a little cheesy?"
"I've asked for Sue's help because she's a winner and I'm not ashamed to admit this, I want to win. But there's not one person in that audience who will think we are anything but underdogs who would be lucky to place at Nationals. We didn't even make the top ten last year. We've got one last week to come together."
