Prom

Prom. The only thing anyone could talk about. I knew that it was a special occasion and many of my friends were excited about the idea of Prom but I was getting bored of talking about it. Even though I had agreed not to go because of Sam's family situation, maybe I was bored of it because I was jealous that I wasn't going. I understand that Sam can't afford anything expensive right now but I didn't want anything expensive.

I didn't expect him to pay for anything, we could split the bill for dinner beforehand and then enjoy a night of dancing with each other and making memories with our friends. It wasn't going to be our last Prom together, because we both had another two years of High School left but I wanted to cherish the time I had with my friends because one day it'll all be over.

"What are you guys talking about?" I asked as the girls walked into the choir room together, they seemed to be having a heated discussion about it.

"Prom dresses."

Mercedes rolled her eyes. "Thank God I don't have to worry about that, I'm not going."

"Why not?"

"Because nobody's asked me."

Just before anyone could interfere, my Dad came in and faced us all with an announcement. "Alright guys, Prom."

"Please tell me we're not doing songs about Prom." Sam groaned, and I placed my hand over his to try and calm him down.

He was embarrassed about the whole Prom situation. We talked about it for hours, he wished that he could take me and we could be a normal couple for the night but I promised him that it was fine. We could save money and have a meal at Breadstix, and next year, when things were better, we could attend Prom together. Although, there was a small part of me that hoped he would change his mind because I really wanted to go this year.

"Nope. We are the Prom. Figgins has asked us to perform."

There were a chorus of groans from everyone in the choir room as we realised that we'd have to attend Prom, whether we wanted to or not because we had to perform for the other students. So much for a meal at Breadstix, we had other plans now.

Rachel was the only excited member as she raised her hand. "Let's do 'Run Joey Run'."

"Now, I know this isn't ideal with Nationals coming up but we really don't have a choice and we could really use the money. I'm going to make sure all of you have a chance to enjoy the dance too. We're going to stagger the performances so that each of you have a lot of time to dance with your dates."

I glanced next to me to see that Sam looked worried about the whole thing, so I made up my mind that we would be practical about Prom. We wouldn't splash out on anything unnecessary and we would have a great night because we would spend it together.
