0013. | NADIA'S FAMILY
GROWS A LITTLE GRANDER

Nadia dreamt of a wheat field. The golden crops grew as high as her waist and tickled her as the wind blew a breeze. She could smell the distant scent of roses that flooded her senses. The air was warm on her skin, and sort of looked like there was a summer filter on her vision - she had never expected a wheat field to look like a haven. But this one did, it felt like home.

          "Nadejda."

She jumped. There in front of her by the edge of the field was her Grandmére. Her grey dreadlocks had been changed into her natural hair that fell down to her shoulder blades but also up and out, giving her a halo of silver hair. And she was no longer wearing her usual attire of a gardener's apron. Now she wore a deep green chiton and gold jewellery that made her honey eyes sparkle.

"Grandmére?" She stepped out from the wheat field to see the woman who didn't look like a woman anymore. She held the aura of something much more powerful. "What's going on? How're you here?" This wasn't a memory like her dream last night, this had never happened before.

She sighed a heavy sigh, but still smiled. That was one of the things she loved about her Grandmére, she never stopped smiling. "I have a lot to answer for, baby." She frowned. "And I think it's time I told you."

Nadia stayed quiet as her Grandmére guided her through a parting of trees to a tall greenhouse that looked like Queen Victoria's Crystal Palace for plants. It was gorgeous. They stayed silent for a while as Grandmére carried a watering can over to a silver glowing plant. The assortment of foliage that grew was immense, Nadia had never seen anything like it and she adored every second of it.

When she stood, she finally spoke. "I'm not who I let you think I am, Nadejda." She warned and that scared her. That was the worst type of news to hear. "But remember, I am and will always be your Grandmére, do you hear me?" She nodded in understanding. Grandmére sighed, watering a purple rose bush. "I am Demeter, Greek goddess of the earth." Nadia sucked in a breath.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She managed to say, composing her face of shock though it was hard.

"When you were a baby, the Fates shared your prophecy to your mother and I, but... well, godly parents cannot be with their children as they grow up - it is forbidden. But it is not forbidden for another god to watch over a half-blood. Sometimes there is special circumstance."

Nadia gulped, staying quiet and watching her Grandmére work to calm her from the million thoughts racing through her head.

"Like with Hera and your friend Leo, or Lupa with Jason," she explained. "Hera can get away with anything, and Lupa has her own duty, but I chose you. Out of love for your mother, but also because of you. You had this undeniable energy - you still do."
