0022. | NADIA SUMMONS A
GOD TO FIGHT A FISH

Leo was having a rotten day even before his girlfriend got knocked out by dolphins.

He was absolutely exhausted, barely standing at that point, but he kept going. He'd lost count of the hours he had spent manning the helm to protect the ship (a very ineffective venture); honestly, he hadn't even realised that night had fallen until Di came to find him. He hadn't meant to let her sleep without him, or he'd at least have wished her sweet dreams (another very ineffective venture).

Unfortunately his exhaustion meant Leo's reaction were a little worse for wear. Thank the gods for Percy and Di realising that they were being attacked because Leo was nearly falling asleep feeling her under his arm, pressed against his chest. He had sounded the alarm bell in time to wake the others but from what he could tell, the dolphin hybrids that attacked them were going to be too much of a challenge for the half-awake teenage fighters belowdecks.

And if all that wasn't bad enough, Nadia got knocked unconscious. Leo turned his back for two seconds —two seconds!— and when he turned back around, she was crumpled on the floor beneath a dolphin with a raised hilt of a sword.

Leo was ready to square up but he too was overwhelmed by the hybrids. He couldn't tell exactly what was happening, just that he had been knocked to the deck, kicked hard a few times and dragged down the stairs to Percy and Annabeth's feet. He coughed a little, winded, but other than that, he was fine.

His drowsy eyes followed after his girlfriend who was pulled down the steps same as he was. A hybrid had grabbed her by the ankle and dragged her, her head smacking against every step with every bump. He tried to crawl to her but he realised how much being kicked by dolphin hybrids hurt when he tried to move. The answer? —a lot.

He groaned, feeling the ache in his stomach and shoulders but he pushed through, reaching out towards her. He almost got hold of her arm when a man holding a gold sword in gold armour slammed a sandalled foot down on his wrist. Leo groaned again, louder. Nadia got yanked away by a cluster of hybrids that tied her hands up with rope like they were trying to smother her hands completely.

"Who are you?" Percy demanded. He distracted the gold armoured man enough for Leo to shelter his bruised wrist in his chest and away from being stepped on. "What do you want?"

Leo saw a shimmer of bronze in the fog that he recognised as Percy's Riptide. He grinned a little, as best as he could but it was wiped away immediately when the man disarmed Percy quicker than Leo had ever seen anyone disarm anyone (and he'd seen Nadia practice sword-fighting with Achilles). Riptide flew over the side of the ship and Leo heard it splash into the ocean. Oh no. We're gonna die... he cursed.
