0017. | THE FIRE FINDS A
HOME IN THEIR POWERLeo made Festus fly away from the Department Store as quickly as they could. He kept looking over his shoulder, half expecting for the dead sun dragons to be chasing them, pulling a chariot with Medea's charred corpse.
Luckily there was no such thing and they were safe for now. "Good job, Festus." Leo tapped his dragon's neck affectionately. Festus purred slightly but there was a distinct sound of popping gears. That definitely wasn't good. "I'll give you a tune up next time we land." He promised. "You've earned something motor oil and Tabasco sauce." Festus whinnied in approval but even that sounded weak. He knew Festus must've been struggling with the weight of everyone and the cages.
"Leo," Piper called from the back of the dragon. "You feeling okay?"
"Yeah," he said. "Not too bad for a brainwashed zombie." He hid his embarrassed expression. "Thanks for helping us back there, Piper. If you hadn't..."
"No, no." Piper shrunk away from the praise. "That was all Nadia. She saved us." She smiled at her best friend who was asleep in Jason's arms. "She did it all, it was incredible. I don't know how she did it, but she broke you from that spell. It was like she had control over your minds and that dragon! That's the coolest thing I've ever seen." Piper ranted in excitement.
Jason tensed when Piper mentioned mind control but he sealed his lips. He wasn't going to tell Nadia's secret whilst she wasn't awake to explain herself.
"Speaking of," Leo looked over his shoulder. "How's she holding up?"
Jason checked her temperature with the back of his hand. "She's so hot."
Leo spun around quicker than lightning. "Bro." He clenched his jaw and Jason rolled his eyes in amusement.
"Not like that, Leo." The thought of thinking of Nadia like that was just plain wrong. Anyways, Jason was sure he liked someone else. Someone who had just ranted excitedly and had a twisted ankle. "She's burning up, her skin's boiling." He strained, not touching her skin-to-skin because she felt like she was on fire.
"She'll be okay, right?" Piper asked nervously.
Leo smiled comfortingly. "She always is."
When Nadia opened her eyes, she was in a garden. It wasn't her back garden from home in New Orleans but it looked incredibly similar, like someone had gone to great effort to make it that way. She could smell the mixture of liquor and roses mixing - just like home. The area was lit by torches but it was still dark and gloomy. Warm like they were underground.
