The Wedding has been set for exactly three weeks seeing as it is the next auspicious date, and though Mother is not happy with the lack of time, she really can't complain, because the date Mo Yuan has chosen coincides with the uinion of our stars which he says is just as auspicious as any other date, but to me, it couldn't be more perfect.
In the sky, my star sits close to The Azure Dragon of the East which is also the main God of Qing Qiu and our protector. While Mo Yuans star is the White Dragon of the West and the Godhead of the Celestials. According to him, our stars have already begun to traverse the sky to cross in order to make way for Hong Luan, the marriage star, which will eventually settle between both of our stars for ninety nine days before returning to its original position.
Astronomy has always fascinated me and Hong Luan especially. It is the representation of the early days of courtship, dreams and love and it is during the preparation for marriage that the star begins its journey to unite the two stars in matrimony. It is also the star of fate. If the marriage is not fated, Hong Luan will not join the two and there is nothing anyone can do about it, it will create obstacle after obstacle until both hearts come to their senses. But for Mo Yuan and I and to the entire world, it shows that we are meant for each other, because it is now on the move and almost between our stars.
This won't stop the gossip which is already reaching me via Fu Yu who got into an altercation with a neighbouring spirte village who were merely repeating what they themselves had heard, but anyone with half a brain, will know that Mo Yuan were always destined for each other, because Hong Luan does not lie, so I try not to take it to heart, but to be honest, the gossip really is wearing me down.
I have had to deal with the backlash of an innocent childhood wish, for most of my life and frankly, I am becoming sick and tired of it. I know I was raised to believe that gossip is merely the verbalized thoughts of others which does not stem from my own beliefs and nor should I give them a place in my head. But it is very hard to ignore, when little sprites who the most pure of the Immortals, are being affected by the ugliness of those who cannot let it go.
So for a while, I simmer angrily at those who not only dare to ignore Mo Yuans warning, but also for my future and that includes our children that will no doubt be forced to face the humliation of being my child. The weight of this thought, becomes so heavy, that eventually Mo Yuan notices and not only is he too becoming angry, but nothing he says can take the pain of what my past will bring to our children.
"Gossip is gossip Mo Yuan. We will never be able to keep them free from it, so I can't see how ignoring or pretending its not happening will help, if anything, its only going to make it worse." I tell him which only upsets him more because he really does hate it when I cry, and I am crying, because I just can't get passed it.
The gossip is not only spreading around the world like fire, but not even Qing Qiu is immune to it, which only increases mothers concern that I am marrying the wrong man. And not only that, but I know Mo Yuans temper, it is simmering below the surface, so I try hard not to let it affect me, but in the last few days, the emotions have begun to rise. In fact, I am feeling a little out of sorts, which isn't helping which I put down the stress of the wedding preparations which is also demanding every second of my attention which has all of us rushing to get the decorations finished, the dress sewn and all the other little details which thankfully my brothers are dealing with.
"Dearest...." he says with eyes so soft that I only cry more...... "Gossip is merely a reflection of the insecurities of those who lack in both judgement and decorum. You my dear are merely highlighting their unique ability to say one thing while understanding another and what they understand is just not your concern and nor is it mine." he says most kindly as I am pulled gently into his arms where I know there will always be a soft cuddle to still every tear in my head.
