The day has finally arrived, our son is going to be given his official name. Unlike the mortals who name their children within his first month, seeing as so many die from complications, us Immortals have no such cares. Our son is healthy and it is not unusual to wait years before gifting a name. Sometimes, a milk name is gifted before the official one, and this is really only for convenience, rather than the superstitious beliefs the Mortals believe.
They usually give their newborns a milk name which is normally always a girls names in order to confuse the demonic spirits who have nothing better to do than steal their male babies. We could have course given our son a milk name, and some Immortals do, but really, I just didn't see the point, and nor did Mo Yuan. He never had a milk name and nor did I, and seeing as our son only had to wait five months, it really wasn't necessary.
Now dressing him in the beautiful red silk gown that mother had made specially for him while Mo Yuan quietly gathers a few of his rare bottles of wine that he keeps in the wine cellar, I can't help but feel exceptionally happy for this day. A name gives a child his identity and place in this world and our son is of the first clans, that being the Celestial Dragons and the Nine Tailed Fox Line. This alone gives him prestige over the rest, so his name will not only cement his place among the greats of the future which we will both ensure he reaches, but it is what will define him.
"Son. It is time to go." Mo Yuans soft voice whispers over my shoulder at our sleeping son who is whimpering a little at being dressed when all he wants to do is snuggle into my breasts.
"Is everything ready?" I ask grinning at the goofy look of admiration on his face.
"It is, but I want to spend a little time together before we join the rest." he says picking our son up and gently cradling him in the crook of his arm.
"Its's hard to believe how much he has grown in such a short space of time...." I observe by the way our sons feet are now overlapping his fathers elbow having grown a little longer and in his red gown, he looks even more so. In fact it is a colour we are seeing him in for the first time, because his outfits are all pastel coloured.
"He certainly has...." he grins before removing a small vial from his inner shirt which is the red ochre that our son will wear to mark this day.
"You're putting it on now?" I ask watching as he deftly undoes the small bottle with one hand.
"We gave your mother the right to name him, hold the ceremony and even prepare his gown, I want to do this one thing." He replies as a small amount of the cinnabar coloured powder is tipped out onto the tip of his finger before being lightly dabbed in the centre of our sons head with a growing smile.
"He looks so beautiful like this..." I say moved to tears. It is such a small gesture, but the significance is enormous.
"The dot is to activate the wisdom chakra, it is a most holiest of the meridians behind the crown chakra and when the qi flows in harmony with each other, they will all assist him in carrying his name forward. Being a baby, is far easier, because he has not yet been sullied by life experience, so this dot will ensure that his name is upheld in the Upper Realms." he says which kind of makes sense to me, but seeing as Mo Yuan is making himself all emotional with his little speech which is solely for my benefit, I merely nod my head before taking hold of his other hand to lead them both out.
My brothers are all here, including Fu Yu and will accompany us to the Celestial Heavens where our baby will be officially named and a special plaque will be erected above a new Palace which is Di Juns gift to the baby for when he is older. I think its all rather extravagant and unnecessary, but this is how they do things so I just go with it.
