"I'm off to find the Avatar. Good luck escaping, though. I have soldiers patrolling." Zhao warned, exiting the room. "Good luck my ass." you mocked, continuing to write.

Dear Zuko and Azula,

If you're reading this, I'm sorry. I've caused nothing but misery to you. I'm pregnant with the two of you, but I only I'm going to have to give you up. Zhao's found me, and there's no hope of escape. I hope that you've had a happy life, whenever you're reading this.

I'll be blind by the time this letter gets to you. I'll be blind and most likely dead. But It'll be fine, because you've had a happy life. You've had a happy life, and that's what matters to me most. I hope your names are Zuko and Azula. You were named after my brother and sister.

I'm so, so sorry, my children. I fought and I fought and I fought, but it wasn't enough. I fought through travels and Fire Nation troops, and here I am. Planning to give the two of you up because I'm not strong enough.

Your father is an awful man. So is your grandfather. I didn't have a bloodlust and that's what caused my downfall. I wasn't hungry for power like my sister was, so my father married me off to Zhao, your father. Zhao's a commander in the Fire Nation army. He's after the Avatar, and I can only hope that he doesn't reach him.

I ran a month after our wedding ceremony. I'm fifteen still, almost sixteen. I've been pregnant with the two of you for a while, almost eight months. I hope that the two of you come out healthy and happy.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I wasn't strong enough, and that I had to give you away because of my own weakness.

Love, your mother.

You cried as you wrote the letter to your future children, the yellow tears staining the page. "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." you sobbed, clutching your stomach.

Someone grabbed your shoulder, and you flinched. "What are you-" you turned to see a man of average build in a blue mask. "If you're going to kill me, make it quick." he picked you up, muffling your scream with his hand.

He carried you outside, stepping past the unconscious guards. "Y/N!" someone called, and your jaw dropped when you saw Aang, Katara and Sokka. The man pushed you towards them, running off into the night.
They enveloped you into a hug. "No. No, I have to go. Zhao's going to be after me again-" you panicked, trying to fight back. "Zhao, and my father. I'm not leaving." you struggled, but they held on tight.

"Please, you have to come with us!" Aang pleaded. "No. No, I've done enough. I wouldn't be a good mother, anyway. A Fire Nation citizen will take in Zuko and Azula, I can't do it-" you started to shake, fear taking over your emotions.

"We can take you to the town we were in before!" Sokka suggested, and you froze. "You...would?" they all frantically nodded. "Okay. I can give Zuko and Azula to Haru and his mother, and I can come back here. Let's go, quick. Before the guards wake up." you climbed onto Appa.

"Yip yip!" and you were off. "Y/N, we really want you to be with us. You can help us defeat the Fire Nation." Katara placed a hand on your arm. "No. I can't." you didn't believe in what your father was doing, but he gave you a home. A home when you would've died without one.

"What? Why not?"

"I have too much on the line."

"So do we! Me and Sokka have our village!" Katara chimed in, trying to convince you, but you wouldn't budge. "I have my children. I want to live to see them grow up, even if I don't raise them."

"You're being selfish." Sokka glared at you. "Woah, woah, woah. Everyone, let's just-" Aang started, but you cut him off. "It's not selfish if I do it for someone else. You're acting like a child, Sokka."

"How am I the one acting like a child? You're younger!"

"And I'm the one who's having children while still being a child! You don't understand now, and you never will! I've grown up, how about you?"

"How have you grown up?" you started to laugh. "It would be strange if I didn't. Must I recount my childhood trauma, or should you just try to remember?"

"Childhood trauma?" Aang chimed in.

"Fine. I have my own family, somewhere far from here. Before I found myself in the Fire Nation. We have things like godparents, phones, technology. Next up is the fact that I was adopted and I was constantly questioned by everyone except my father. And then gee, what do you know? My brother's banished for cowardice and disrespect. Two years go by, and suddenly I'm married to a commander.

"A commander that's after you, Aang. I'm separated from my family and I'm supposed to fight against them. God knows where my original family is. My kids are the only thing good from the life I've had so far, and I'm holding on to them. Your war be damned. Zuko and Azula come first."

"But Y/N, we need you. You can't leave us."

"No, you need my firebending. And it wouldn't be able to happen, anyway. Infants would slow everything down. It would be best if I stayed in the next village. There's no point in arguing." you leaned back against Appa, falling asleep.
