"Hey, boys!" you fluttered your lashes, trying to make yourself look as "girly" as possible. "The name's Jia. What's yours?" they smirked, both wearing equally disgusting faces. "What's a pretty girl like you doing out here?" one asked. "I need tickets to Earth Rumble Six, but I don't know where it's held! You guys know, right? You're big, strong men! I'm sure that the two of you know where a manly thing like Earth Rumble Six is taking place." you smiled softly, trying to use your face to your advantage.
"Uhhh- uhhh," their faces turned red, and with a kiss on the cheek, they told you where it was taking place. "Thanks, boys!" you skipped back to your friends, thankful that Zuko and Azula hadn't disturbed your information gathering. "We have a location, guys!"
"Fuck," you hissed, holding your head. "Is everything okay, Y/N?" Katara asked. Tears pricked your eyes, making your pain worse. "Another flash. It just hurts. Fuck." you gripped Aang's hand tightly, surely leaving a bruise on the otherwise unblemished skin. "Ouch." Aang muttered, yet you couldn't let go. "Sorry, Aang."
Your vision unfogged just enough so you could see the fight between the "Blind Bandit" and Boulder. "Yes! You go, baby girl!" you screamed, cupping your hands over your mouth. "Show them what us blind benders are all about!" all the noise had woken up Zuko and Azula. "No, baby. Don't cry. Here, are you two hungry?" hungry or not, it was around the time they needed to be fed. You watched on as you fed your children, enchanted by the sight of the blind girl.
"Aang, no. I'll fight her. You're the Avatar, you have too much on the line. Katara, please hold them." you passed Zuko and Azula over to your friend, volunteering to fight her.
"Hey. I hope you know, I don't really wanna fight you. I'm not an earthbender, either." the girl furrowed her brows, sending rocks your way anyway. You dodged, pulling out Kyoshi's fan from your outfit. "Fine." you continued to dodge her attacks, until you couldn't. When you realized that you couldn't dodge what she sent your way, you used your fan to try and defend yourself. As if it was someone else controlling the fan and your movements, you sent out a gust of wind that sent her flying out of the ring.
"Wait! Please, wait!" you cried, chasing after the girl. "I swear, that was an accident!" she didn't pay any mind to you, continuing to storm down the stairs. "Leave me alone!" she demanded, opening and closing a wall of rock. You sighed, disappointed in yourself for fucking up and ruining Aang's chance of having her as his teacher.
"You again." one of the boys said. "That's me. Hello, boys. I have another favor to ask of you." you ended up getting the information that you wanted, and as payment, you kissed them each on the cheek again. "How did you do that, Y/N?" you chuckled. "I have nothing restraining me from doing what I need to get what I want. I have Zuko and Azula, but they're too young to even register what I'm doing." you explained, rocking your children.
"I'll call the guards." the girl threatened. "Wait for a moment. You're royalty in this town, no?" she hesitantly nodded, her expression of anger never leaving. "And you're blind. You must be treated like a hopeless young girl who isn't good for anything but eye candy. You must want out." she seemed to agree, but she paused. "Guards!" she yelled, and you started to scurry away. You watched as guards escorted the girl, who you learned to be Toph back inside, chiding her for being alone.
"Well, Toph is blind, and we don't want her to hurt herself." Toph's mother defended. "If I may, Miss Beifong." you interjected, and she gestured for you to continue. "Being blind would help her with earthbending. Earth is the most docile element, yet can be the most rough. Since a large portion of earthbending comes from the feet, she would be able to control it just fine."
"What do you mean, Jia?" Master Yu encouraged you to continue to speak. "I am also partially blind." you waited for their surprise to wear off. "And being blind enhances your hearing, among other senses. Touch is the most important sense when it comes to earthbending. As long as Toph can feel the earth, she can earthbend. She doesn't need to be able to see, because she can see her opponents differently. She can feel them."
"I see. Jia, are you also an earthbender?" you chuckled. "I'd love to be, but no. I'm a waterbender, so being partially blind is a challenge for me."
"You can see us, though." Master Yu pointed out. "Ah, I should probably explain that. I grew very ill when I was little, and I never fully recovered. It gives me what I like to call "blind flashes". It also comes with some pain, but the temporary blindness is the worst part."
Azula started to cry, and you panicked under everyone's prying gaze. "Excuse me, please." you left the room, close enough to be able to hear their conversation. "She has kids? Oh, Toph, please don't end up like that. Your father and I wouldn't be able to handle it." you started to feed Azula, gritting your teeth. "She's married, actually." Katara stepped in, and you internally thanked her.
"Oh. Sokka, are you her husband?" Sokka spluttered, trying to find the words to answer Toph's mom's question. "He is. They were in an arranged marriage at first, but now they've fallen in love." Katara lied. Thank you so much, Katara. Remind me to give you the fattest hug when we leave. "Awh, Zuko. Are you hungry, too? I bet you are." you cooed, starting to feed your son.
"Truce? Toph, you're one bad bitch." you said. "Wait, if you two are going on a walk, let me come with. Sokka, my dear husband, put Zuko and Azula to bed? They've been fed, just please, don't let them fall off the bed. I don't care who does it, actually, I just need my children asleep by the time I come back." you followed Toph out to the courtyard, leaving Katara to tease Sokka.
"Do you believe what you said earlier? About your blindness." your heart ached for this girl. "Of course I do, baby. I saw you in the ring. You're one of the best earthbenders I've seen, believe me. I hope you'll train Aang, he could use someone like you. Actually, we all could use someone like you." you pulled the shorter girl in for a hug, smiling softly at how she melted into the embrace.
"I'm going to leave. My...husband and I-"
"You don't have to lie anymore." you sagged in relief. "Thank god. I need to put my kids to bed. Lord knows that Sokka and Katara are too busy arguing to pay attention to Zuko and Azula. The name's Y/N, by the way." you left the courtyard, finding your way back to your room.
"Oh. Oh my god." you saw Zuko and Azula lying on top of Sokka, who was arguing with Katara quietly. Your children were sleeping quietly, and your friends hadn't noticed your arrival yet. Fuck. I can't do this. Don't do this. This isn't about you anymore. Sokka might be great and all, but he's taken. He has Yue. Don't develop feelings for someone who won't love you back. You'll only hurt Zuko and Azula. You covered your mouth with your hand, pushing your emotions back.
"Thank you, Sokka. I'm glad that you helped me out." you were about to scoop them up, but Katara stopped you. "Shhh, they're having a moment." you chuckled. "I'm sorry, but that can't happen. We're friends, Sokka. Not lovers. Those are my children, not yours. You're not their father, don't act like it. I'm leaving soon, anyway." you snapped, taking Zuko and Azula off of Sokka's chest.
They started to cry, and you ignored how much your heart hurt. Azula reached out to grab Sokka, and you started to cry yourself. "Y/N-" you held your hand up. "No. My children will grow up fatherless. Them getting attached to you will only end in misery for all parties. For me, for you, and for my kids."
"Let Toph handle this." you held Katara and Sokka back, wanting to let Toph prove her worth. You watched as she easily took on all of the wrestlers. "Attagirl." you murmured, watching on in awe. "Wooo! Go Toph!" you shouted, cheering the younger girl on.
"No, sir. If I may-"
"You may not. This matter is between us and Toph only." Toph's father interrupted you. You were ushered out of the house. "What's wrong, Y/N?" Katara asked, and you felt your cheeks. They were wet, and you were crying. "Nothing. I probably just have stuff in my eye."
"Wait up!" someone called, and you cried even harder when you saw Toph. "Toph!" you wrapped the younger girl in a hug. "My father changed his mind."
"Well, let's go before he changes his mind again."
