"sorry.."

"Y/N, what was that all about? Did you have a nightmare? Do you want to talk about it?" you turned over on your side, avoiding Katara's eyes. "I'm fine. There's nothing to talk about."

"Is it about your uncle?" Katara urged. "We're your friends, you should talk to us." you sat up, staring at the waterbender. "There isn't anything to talk about. I'm fine, Katara." but she wouldn't give it up. "We all talk to you about our problems! Why won't you talk to us? We're friends!"

You stood up, staring your friend down. "Have you ever thought that I don't want to talk about it?!? You're so fucking immature, you think everything is about you! Well, it's not! I just don't want to talk to you, because it all boils down to you!" in all your anger, you hadn't noticed that you were summoning lightning until it struck just a few feet away from Katara.

"I can deal with my own problems, Katara." you scooped up your children, who were now awake and crying, and stormed off. "Y/N, wait!" you ignored her protests, finding Sokka in a tree. "Oh. Hey, Sokka. What're you doing?" he didn't respond, jumping on a small creature. Except, he fell straight through a crevice and got stuck in the rock.

"Yeah, no." he didn't notice you yet, and you took that to your advantage as you snuck away to watch Aang's training instead. "Aang, you're doing great! Keep going!" you cupped your hands over your mouth, amplifying your voice. "Y/N, you know how to earthbend! Can you help Aang?"

"Sure." you walked down to your friends. "Watch Zuko and Azula for me." Katara nodded, taking your kids from you. "Actually, I don't know any of the technicalities of earthbending. I just did it. Aang, try and get yourself into the right mindset."

"How can you earthbend without any training? Prove it." you grinned, stretching. "Call me the makeshift Avatar, if you will. But in all honesty, my blood is the reason why I can bend all of the elements. I don't know airbending, though. You'll have to teach me sometime, Aang." you shifted your stance into a wider footing, slamming one of your feet down and pulling a rock from the ground. You set it down, wiping your hands.

"What's wrong with your blood?"

"I'm not from any of the four nations. I don't know where I'm from, actually. I just know that I'm from a different place, one that allows me to bend all four elements."

You took a nap for the rest of the day, your nightmare and screaming match with Katara had taken a lot out of you.

"Y/N? Y/N, what's the answer?" a stern looking woman pointed to the board, and you blanked as you realized that you couldn't read the board. It was your past language, the writing form that you had forgotten. "It's okay, Y/N. You don't have to know. Here, I'll go over it again." she started to talk, and you realized with a jolt that you were relearning your native language. All of it, not just the bits and pieces you knew before. It was all just... clicking in your mind.

"I have it! Yes, I have it!" you sat up suddenly, freaking everyone out. "Have what?" you started to rummage around in Appa's saddle, being careful of Zuko and Azula, who were sleeping soundly. "Here it is." you pulled out an empty scroll and an ink pen. You hopped off of the bison, starting to write.

Dear Zuko and Azula,
I've finally relearned my native letter system. This will be the language you write in, the one they use here will be second. I had a dream that I was in a classroom, and that a teacher was helping me relearn everything. I'm so glad that I can finally remember everything, because...well, I don't know. I'm glad because I used to write like this when I was younger. And then one day my sister burned my letters to home, calling me a foreigner and saying that my writing style was weird. I stopped writing after that, I didn't want to anger her further. Anyway, my friends are watching me write this over my shoulder. I'll write again soon. I love you both.
-Y/N

"What does that say?" Sokka tried to read it. "It's my language from back home. I had a dream, and it all came back to me there."

"Oh! Did you speak a different language there, too?" you chuckled, rolling up the scroll. "No. The language back home is the language here, too. It's just written differently, I suppose." you sat cross-legged on Appa, moving your scarf so Zuko and Azula would be on your lap. "Well? What are you waiting for? Tell me what happened when I was asleep."
