"Hey Pers?"
"Yes, Clarke?"

The halls of the Ark were silent. Night had fallen meaning curfew had begun.

"I can't sleep."
"I can hear that." Her response was met by an eye roll and a scoff.

"Can you sing me a song?"
"Which one?"
"The one you sung the first time we realized that we could hear each other."

The two prisoners were sat up right on the floor speaking through the ventilation system.

"The one when we realized solitary wasn't so, well, solitary." The girl chuckled then sighed, seeing that it was only Clarke, whom she had never seen before and never met, she began to sing.

"You taught me the courage of stars, before you left
How light carries on endlessly, even after death
With shortness of breath, you explained the infinite
How rare and beautiful it is, to even exist
I couldn't help but ask
For you to say it all again
I tried to write it down
But I could never find a pen
I'd give anything to hear
You say it one more time
That the universe was made
Just to be seen by my eyes"

As she sang to Clarke, she began to smile. In all seventeen years of her life this would be her happiest memory to date. So she sang. She sang for Clarke, for her dead parents whom she never met, and for the ninety eight other delinquents who could hear her voice through the vents. Every night they would stay up and wait for the vents to open fully and the mystery girl to sing or tell a story. Her voice was captivating. Goddess like. She was their Songbird, a symbol of hope. As long as she continued to survive and sing and tell stories, so would they. She was their light on the darkest of nights.

Only, she was the darkness.

Persphyni Atlys was a mystery. To Clarke, the other delinquents, the guards, and to herself.

And maybe that's why she did it. Maybe the knowledge that she had parents because that's the only way a baby can be born is why she did it. Or maybe she was just trying to figure herself out.

Persphyni, sounds familiar right? How about we change the spelling. Persephone, now you got it. Daughter of Demeter, the goddess of spring, poor innocent girl who was kidnapped by the evil god of the underworld. By Hades. And then had her eat six pomegranate seeds.

That's how Demeter would tell it, and everyone who knew the facade of sweet Persephone. But Hades was the only one to see right through her. As the Fates claimed, they were a match weaved in their hands.

God of the Underworld, Ruler of Death meets the Goddess of Spring. Sounds almost tragic and horrifying. Until you learn the true Persephone. The one behind the facade. Bringer of Death, Queen of the Underworld, this is who Persephone is. Not some flower wielding, field frolicking, peace keeping nymph.

And it may be this truth that brought me where I am today. I was just a story in another life time, another body. I am Persphyni Atlys. Bringer of Death and Bearer of the World. I was the darkness.

And I ate the pomegranate seeds.
