It had been 2 weeks since Wuxian had started working in the noodle house and he could finally understand why the lady had quit from the job. His boss was a sadistic, money hungry, overbearing man who overworked Wuxian to the bone. The was no other employee apart from him so he was tasked to do everything from cleaning, waiting, assisting in food preparation, buying food ingredients and also worked as a night guard for the house. The only thing he didn't do and frankly wasn't allowed to was to cook. But it wasn't that bad. I mean, he had a root over his head, a decent place to sleep, he always ate 3 meals a day which his boss allowed and he could keep the extra tips he got from the customers. It was a win-win in his eyes.
Wuxian was grateful for one thing though and that was that he had been able to blend in quite well in this new environment like a local and that people were quite welcoming. He got along with almost everyone with his charming, extroverted behaviour and his witty personality. Soon enough everyone knew who Mo Xuanyu was and people genuinely like him.
“EIIIIIII! MO XUANYU!!! WHERE ARE YOU?!” the loud gruffy voice called impatiently from the kitchen. The voice called out again in a thunderous volume continuously and Wuxian apologised to the current customer he was serving excusing himself.
“Uiiii Big Boss, you're scaring all the customers with your noise! You know I can't be at two places at the same time. What do you want now?” Wuxian berated his boss' bad behaviour but he could care less.
“HEYYY! WHOSE RESTURANT IS THIS?! YOU BETTER WATCH THAT MOUTH OF YOURS MO XUANYU!!” the man warned waving his spatula that was splashing around hot oil all over.
“Ok, ok, take it easy. What do you need?” Wuxian asked calmingthe situation.
“I am running out of ingredients. Run over to Bic and get me more. Alright?” he ordered as they were engulfed in smoke and he threw the frying dish into flames.
Wuxian wanted to refuse stating that he still hadn't waited on some tables but he knew he would get a scolding instead so he adhered. He left immediately with more than enough money to get the necessary goods. He was actually glad to have a form of break and step outside for a while but that soon changed when he realised he had to go all over to Bic, who was the chef's vegetable dealer. He immediately frowned thinking of the distance and foot traffic along the way. Bic's market stall was two roads away from the noodle House to the other end of the market where most organic flora shops were located.
Wuxian knew for sure that he would be scolded again by that foul-mouthed guy since he would take too much time to get back. There was plenty of good veggie markets around there with fresh goods but it had to be Bic or noone at all. He sighed to himself as he made the journey as quick as possible.
He reached the stall as fast as he could and like usual, it was a struggle to get his stuff. A lot of people like Bic's produce and it was around midday, the worst time to go grocery shopping. The whole place was crowded and Wuxian had to push through to get to the front.
“Heyy, make way! This is the health inspector!! Make way or less you shall be fined!” Wuxian threatened as he pulled people apart by force. He used this new form of trickery to always make it up front and 80% of the cases, it worked. Classic Wuxian.
“Ohhhhh! Mo Xuanyu, it's just you! For a moment I was actually worried thay you were the health officer! Those fucking bastards always come around unexpectedly and ruin my business in the middle of the day. Anyway, what do you need.... Heyy, madam you haven't payed me yet,” Bic said as he handled about 5 customers at the same time. Wuxian rattle off the list sure that Bic had heard him even though his attention was elsewhere.
