CHAPTER 31.5 :PAYMENT FOR YOUR CRIMES

      The hard, prickly and unshaven rough surface dug sharply into the soft, wearing-out knee cartilages as Lan Zhan balanced his whole body weight and gravitational pull on the single 30cm by 5cm wooden bar. He was currently serving his punishment in the ever feared office of Lan Qiren, kneeling on the bar to a point that he could now no longer feel his legs anymore yet he didn't dare say a word or show a hint of pain. It had already been 1 hour now and by the looks of things, he was no where near done.

     Light flooded into the room, brightening up the whole place. Ahead of him facing the glass window was none other than Lan Qiren who had not said a word either ever since Lan Zhan came and presented himself accordingly. No sound was heard before Lan Qiren eventually broke the silence as he walked away from the window and turned towards his disobedient son.

      "Do you have any idea of the shame and humiliation you just brought upon me!!?" he asked lowly as he walked over to him. He kept his distance, afraid that he would explode if he got any closer. Lan Zhan didn't say a word as he knew that talking in his situation would only aggravate him further.

   " Everyday, millions of people beg and pray and cry to have as little as an eighth of what you have yet here you are the most ungrateful and unfilial child ever!! What exactly is wrong with you Lan Zhan because at this point it seems very deliberate that you are trying to sabotage and ruin my name and I will not allow it!!! Do you hear me boy??! I will not tolerate this foolishness and disobedience that you keep bringing up every single time just for attention! It is time for you to grow up! Honestly, it is like I am dealing with a temper tantrum throwing child and it doesn't help that that  useless brother of yours is constantly making excuses for you either!! Dishonor that is what this is!! Insubordination! " he roared as Lan Zhan bowed his head low, no chance given to explain or talk back.

  
   " It is like the both of you are plotting against me at every single opportunity with your out of control behavior!! All this for what? A single question?!! Goddammit child! How long will it take for you to forget about that woman and move on!!? We all have so what's the problem with you? You keep acting as though you are the only boy without a mother but guess what Lan Zhan, there are millions of children who don't have parents at all and are doing quite fine so I don't understand your childish need to act out everytime so thing related to her is mentioned!!! Stop being immature and shape up that character of yours! Let me remind you whose roof you are living under and which name you bear! You are a Lan whether you like it or not so better start acting like one before I disown you! Do you hear me Lan Zhan?" he barked harshly, hands on his waist, his body temperature rising. His usually brunt and stoic self had changed to a fierce and disturbing nature as he made constant jabs at the 16 year old, veins threatening to pop.

    “With all due respect, it was never my intention to disappoint or make you angry at all father. My duty has always been to be a filial son and descendant, " Lan Zhan finally spoke up as he lifted his head to peer at his old man. He could see the silent fury that coated each side of his father and the huge unfillable barrier between them. Even if they shared blood, they were worlds apart and one could never guess for them to be father and son much less related.

    "However, my mother is not just a piece of object that can easily be replaced just because she is not here anymore. I am your son but I am also her son and if I feel a need to act out in my duty to her, then as a filial son it is only right to do so." he said, connecting their eyes.

  "LAN ZHAAN!!!" Lan Qiren exploded, taken aback by his son's sudden audacity.

  "HOW DARE YOU!!! SHAMELESS BRAT!! YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO DISRESPECT ME IN MY OWN HOUSE!!!!!" he yelled, his face beetroot red as he raised his hand high, ready to strike immediately. Lan Zhan fell to the ground performing a full on bow in reverence.
