CHAPTER 73: A NEW BEGINNING

   
    ~ 2 More Years  later ~

The hurried scrambling of feet trodded as fast as they could to keep up with the boss who was well ahead of them. They were a new group of employees for the managing team that had just started their job 2 months ago and needless to say, the  position was overwhelming. Lan Zhan strod with wide steps, his precise foot count covered in each stride. It was a busy day and it didn't seem to be slowing down at all.

    The phone rang and he picked it up as they entered the elevator. It was his mother.

   "Mama," he answered as he looked at the time. There were going to be late with about 5 minutes.

  "Ahh my boy! Happy birthday son!! Look at you growing so fast my darling!" Liu Feng cooed, sending numerous kisses down the line. Lan Zhan grimaced, thankful that she couldn't see his reactions as the rest of the team tried to eavesdrop on the conversation.

   " Mama, I'm just 37, that's nothing to be elated about and neither am I growing anymore but thank you. How are things? Is father doing ok?" he asked. It had been long since he had last seen them and he'd like to know his progress. Last time had been good enough.

   " Well, you know, there are good days and bad days dear and so.... But we are fine as we can be. You?" she expressed, hoping to hear any good news.

   "I'm fine... Busy as always." Lan Zhan said as they got off the elevator and mare way to the front doors. They were going to examine and interview a group of 300 men and women who were applying to be the Head of Lan Industries and Cooperations. Xichen had come back but had decided not to take over; finding a new area of interest of his own. Lan Zhan respected that but he was 4 years down already and this was the last chance he had before they closed the case definitely. They had to be thorough and quick.

   "Mhh..... and Sizhui? How's he doing?"

Sizhui had been left in Lan Zhan's custody since she left, living with him in their apartment. He had sold off his precious home, the place holding many disturbing memories for him. They lived in an apartment until Feng and Wuxian returned in order to set things appropriately at the Lan estate.

    "He's doing fine although I do have a bone to pick with him later today - nothing to worry about though just some parenting." Lan Zhan stated as Feng laughed.

   "Alright dear. Ohh before I forget..... How's my son in law? I haven't talked to him in a while. Last I heard he was in the Maldives,"

   "He's enjoying life Mama. I haven't talked to him either due to the different time zone but I'll be sure to let him know that you called." Lan Zhan hurriedly said, as he looked down at the schedule plans once again. They were seriously going to be late.

   " That's fine dear. That's all, I can tell you need to be somewhere. Goodbye and tell Xichen to give me a call as soon as possible that stubborn boy!!"

    "I will Mom." Lan Zhan promised, cutting the call. Oh, they needed to go.

    "Get the car," he ordered to one of the members as they stopped by the secreterial open space on the ground floor. The poor man had barely reached the doors before confetti exploded from each corner as hundreds of pink and black balloons filled the while room, employees gasping at the sight. Birthday banners dropped down and the celebratory music came on as well as the voice message.

   "HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY GRUMPY BUTTERFLY!!! LOOK AT YOU ALL GROWN AND INDEPENDENT! YOU THOUGHT I FORGOT HMM? I KNOW I'M NOT THERE IN PERSON BUT I'M WITH YOU IN SPIRIT AND SO I AM SENDING MUCH LOVE AND JOY TO YOU AS YOU TURN 37 TODAY! YOUR GIFT WILL ARRIVE IN 2 WEEKS SO DON'T LOOK DOWN OR BE UPSET NY LOVE!! ALSO, OUR BELOVED  EMPLOYESS MAKE SURE TO WISH MY DARLING A HAPPY BIRTHDAY AS WELL!! LET IT BE A DAY OF CELEBRATION! YAHHH! FROM YOUR LOVELY, MAJESTIC, ONE OF A KIND FIANCE WEI WUXIAN! "
