It goes without say that it is important to know what exactly took place 16 years before Lan Zhan and Wei Wuxian had reached this stage. How they, from two different worlds had even found each other and why they had come out the way they did.
It was a semi warm Tuesday mid- morning at the Fuzhuon Widestate High School in Xiyang Province. The 2nd term had just began and it was already the second week of school. Most students were still hungover from the summer holidays and it didn't help that in the next 3 weeks they would have their opening exams. It put most in a foul mood and others had yet to report. The bell signalling the end of the 30 minute break rang and the students each filed to their classes for the rest of the day.
The fourth years of class 4A returned to class noisily as each took to their seats. It was a ruckus for a while before the door was opened revealing the school principal and a foreigner behind him. The class quickly quietened down and they turned their attention towards him."Attention students, I have news for you. Your class has received an additional student this year. He had recently joined the school franchise therefore it is up to each and everyone of you to induct him into the system and make him feel at home. Now, I'll let him introduce himself," the principle finished as he ushered the young man to the centre.
Whispers already began between the girls as they were clearly impressed by his visuals. He was tall for his age and it could be seen that he would grow taller in a few years. He had a very nice angular face, semi - thin pink lips, a high bridge nose that some even speculated he had gotten plastic surgery ( it wasn't uncommon between teenagers), round bambi eyes that were overflowing with youthful mischief and joy. His pitch black hair was well- styled to suit his face and there was no denying he was going to be quite popular among the girls and a new competition among the boys.
The newcomer smiled brightly at everyone as though they were already friends and cleared his throat.
"Hello everyone. My name is Wei Wuxian and I am 17 years old. My family just moved to this area and I'm excited to be part of this class and this stellar school. Please take care of me well." he eloquently spoke bowing to the class and Principal. Immediately most students liked his first impression. This guy was going to be an interesting character in the class. And Wei Wuxian proved to be just that. A class clown. Troublemaker. Mischievous and was always the centre of fun and fooling around. Wei Wuxian brought much life to the people around him and to the school in general.
Wei Wuxian was then ushered to his seat in the middle of the row of the 5th column in class. The principal ended with a quick reminder for revision then left to allow the math teacher to begin. The math teacher got in with his trusted and most adored student and once the students had greeted him, began the lesson.
Wuxian was quite surprised when he saw the teacher sit aside and let a student teach the class. Back where he was from, teachers didn't even acknowledge students yet here he was being taught by another student. Wuxian stretched his head to see the student ahead well but all he caught were glimpses and a stiff voice to listen too. He decided to just sit back and enjoy the ride and hopefully figure out this new environment of his.A month passed by and Wuxian had already made a name for himself. Everyone in the fourth year and even some of the younger students knew him. How could they not? The guy was more than likable. He had a way with words, a witty sense, great humor, admirable looks, an open personality and friendliness for all around him. As long as you had good vibes and wasn't a mean person, Wuxian would easily include you in his friends circle and could easily fit in anywhere. That was Wei Wuxian for you. The next most popular guy in school.
On the early October morning, students crowded before the noticeboards right at the entrance to the building. The opening exam results were out. Many pushed and pulled to see their results and gauge how they had done but by the numerous groans, complaints and even tears, it was clear that it wasn't up to par with their expectations.
