A couple of days passed after that incident and Lan Zhan and Wei Wuxian didn't meet or interact again for a while. It was final season so each was busy with trying to revise and study hard to pass well enough to get to the 5th year. It would really be embarrassing and life ending if anyone was held back to repeat the 4th year with the younger ones. It was something that would haunt and taint your high school life forever.

Lan Zhan was mostly found in the library, refreshening his mind while Wuxian put in much effort not to give in to his fleetingness and actually study. It was during this tense and nerve-wracking time that the two found themselves engaged in the biggest fight ever between them.

It was a clear Thursday mid morning and the 4th years were outside enjoying their break time. It had snowed a bit but not tooo much that they couldn't withstand it. Wuxian was sitting on the sidelines of the grounds with Guangyao and their other friends. Today he wasn't as talkative as usual having been in a foul mood since morning and with good reason too. His aunt was giving him an unbearable time at home especially with the final exams coming up. It was undeniable that his aunt had strongly disliked him from the moment he had come into her life and her hate only grew with the passing years. It didn't matter what Wuxian did or didn't do, she always found fault with him and openly displayed her grudge with him. And she didn't hold back this time.

His aunt wanted Wuxian to repeat his 4th year as he had joined late and hadn't learnt for a while like the rest. Wuxian knew for sure that what she was saying was not for his own benefit but rather as a way to humiliate him when they had the next family gathering and portray him as a lousy, lazy, uneducatable, uncouth fool to them. He had tried to explain it to her that there was no need for that as it would be a waste of time and money but his comment had lead to an argument in which his aunt accused him of being prideful, ungrateful and insolent. She brought up Wuxian's numerous faults and his low intelligence provoking him to try and talk back in which it would later lead to her beating him harshly for it. It made Wuxian's blood boil. He wasn't the type to explicitly hate people or even liked making enemies but his aunt was pushing it. He didn't know why she hated him so much. It was baffling honestly.

Anyway, his uncle had come on to diffuse the situation and gave the two an ultimatum. If Wuxian could get high grade points and pass well enough to enter the 5th class then his aunt had no say so in the matter and Wuxian would proceed however, if he didn't pass, Wuxian would repeat and that was the final order. Wuxian grudgingly accepted the offer but his whole morning had already been ruined. Now he had another thing pressuring him and he had not choice but to pass and not only pass but pass exemplary well no matter what. His whole life depended on it.

He didn't feel like playing with the rest as usual and opted just to sit down and mull over in silence. Even his friend's talks didn't interest him. It was that serious.

“ Hey, Wuxian, what's up with you? You've hardly reacted to any of my stories. Have you become deaf or what?!” Guangyao suddenly said as he turned his attention to the gloomy guy. His silence was affecting the whole mood of the group and it annoyed Guangyao to a point.

“Uhhh? It's nothing Jin. I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. And you can tell me your stories later.” Wuxian replied irritated even more by Guangyao's tone. Guangyao picked up Wuxian's ticked off vibe easily and decided not to press him further. They had just recently made up and he wasn't interested in having another fight. He had a feeling that Wuxian was a very different being when angered enough.

“Relax man! No need to bite...... Here drink this, it will make you feel better.” Guangyao replied as he handed Wuxian a bottle of mixed drinks. It was a concoction of soda and alcohol that Guangyao regularly sneaked into school and shared with the rest. Wuxian had once tasted it out of curiosity and quite liked it but that was outside school grounds. At the moment, he wasn't really prepared nor asking for it. It would only make him feel high and sluggish after but for some reason he didn't decline either.
