CHAPTER 26: A NIGHT GUEST

       A few days passed before Lan Zhan was able to finally get his alone with Wuxian. There was just a lot happening at school for them to properly hang out and both parties understood the circumstances surrounding each other. It wasn't as though they were supposed to be glued to each others side! It was during lunch break did the two find themselves at their usual shared table without any clashing. Wuxian took his seat and immediately a sense of rightness settled within him. He had missed Lan Zhan a lot even though they saw each other everyday and were desk mates. He just felt as though he hadn't really been with him the last past days and merely oscillated around, not feeling his usual presence that he had become accustomed to. It had been like that since his house date with Qin Su  and though Wuxian wasn't sure as to why such a shift had taken place, he was somewhat relieved that it was temporary and they would go back to their inner circle.

      "Aiyaahh, Lan Zhan!! I feel like I haven't seen you in ages! Where have you been? Don't you know how much I  have missed you my friend?" Wuxian immediately began as soon as his bum hit his seat and faced the other boy who waited patiently, not touching his food yet. Lan Zhan felt a warm, gooey feeling spread from his chest to the pit of his stomach at Wuxian's words. He too had suffered a withdrawal from his absence and had wanted to talk to him sooner but responsibilities and work had gotten in the way and their connection had dwindled but now he felt relieved that Wuxian had thought of him regardless and he had done the same thing.

     "Wei Ying, we are literal deskamates and see each other everyday, why do you speak as though one of us has been away for months? Come now and eat and stop being silly," Lan Zhan replied, his eyes lighting up a bit as he began digging in.

    " Heyy, Lan Zhan! That's not what you are supposed to say!! Didn't you miss me at all? I mean yes we have  been seeing each other but we really haven't hang out just the two of us recently. Shouldn't you be professing how lonely and miserable you've been at my absence? Going on about how it's been hard to live without me by your side?!" Wuxian suddenly talked up being his usual dramatic self. In truth he knew Lan Zhan was just jesting and had missed him as well with the way he said his name with much affection but he just wanted to mess with him. He wanted to poke this quiet boy that was gaining his favor each day.
   
     Lan Zhan didn't bother with Wuxian, letting him do whatever he wanted inwardly reeling as he had truly missed this interaction. Therefore, the two boys spent that 1 hour chatting with Wuxian doing 90% of the talking, telling every single detail of this thoughts and doings while Lan Zhan listened attentively, interjecting where necessary and constantly refilling Wuxian's bowl as he reminded him to pause and eat. They finished 15 minutes before time was up and headed back to class to settle down before the commencement of the afternoon classess. It was then Lan Zhan remembered about Miss Liu's request and dug into his pocket for the elegantly printed and enevolped invitation letter.

     "Wei Ying," Lan Zhan called out to the other who turned to face him.

     "Mhhmm, what is it Lan Zhan?" Wuxian replied. Lan Zhan didn't say anything at first but simply handed the letter to Wuxian who was confused as he took it.

      "Wh-what is this for Lan Zhan?" he asked as he took glances at the small -hand sized letter.

      "Kindly pass this on to your aunt and uncle. It is an invitation to a party at our house this weekend and you and your family have been invited to attend. The other details about it I believe, is stated further in the letter." Lan Zhan said as he began to arrange his books accordingly.

    " Party?! Wha- why- is there something you guys are celebrating or..... I mean why are we invited?" Wuxian asked as it was confusing. The letter looked quite official and was specifically addressed to his aunt and uncle so there was no mistake yet he couldn't understand why. As far as he knew, his relatives really didn't know Mr Lan like that neither were they affiliated in any way so it was quite a surprise. Lan Zhan then explained the whole situation which left Wuxian laughing.
