It was a cold December afternoon with all the classes just finishing up, and Alex walked down the large hallway, heading to the courtyard in search of any of her friends. She walked outside and saw Nathan and George sitting together. She grinned and walked over to them, taking a seat next to Nathan.

"Hello boys! I seem to always find you two here!" She said to them as they both nodded.

"Yeah, Nathan and I are always scheming here." George teased.

"We also make plans for extra quidditch practices, not always up to no good." Nathan reassured.

"Well, I am glad to see you two have become such good friends. Did you hear about the Yule ball? It's cutting close to when everyone leaves for Christmas though, with the ball on the 23rd and leaving on the 24th." Alex said as both boys groaned, "Why are you two groaning?"

"That means we have to ask a girl out." George mumbled.

"What? You two ladies men? I'm sure you'll be fine." Alex grinned at them.

"I'm sure I can take three guesses on whos going to ask you, hm?" Nathan teased, lightly nudging her as George laughed at her now red face.

"Shut up, both of you. Have you seen Hermione?" She asked.

"Common room." George told her as she nodded, bidding them goodbye as she made her way inside, getting too cold outside. She hurried to the common room and instead of seeing Hermione, she saw Ron, Harry, and Fred in what looked like the middle of an argument.

"What's going on here?" She asked, looking between the three of them.

"We're trying to figure out who gets to ask you to the ball, and these two are being bloody idiots." Ron spoke loudly.

"Well you realize that I am not just an object, right? I think I get a bit of a say, don't you think?" Alex sarcastically asked, crossing her arms.

"Yeah, yeah. Of course Alex, but these two gits cant realize that you obviously want to go with me." Harry said, rolling his eyes as the three started bickering once again.

"I don't want to go with any of you." She decided, just as Nathan and George entered in fits of laughter which quickly died once they felt the tension in the room.

"You don't?" Fred questioned as she shook her head.

"Nope, not if you guys are going to treat me like an object instead of just asking me." Alex spoke, anger evident in her tone.

"Look Alex-" Ron started as she quickly shushed him, turning to Nathan.

"Nathan, would you like to go to the ball with me?" She asked him as he looked at the other three angry guys in the room.

"Don't look at them! Look at me and answer the question." Alex snapped at him as he spewed out a very unsure 'yeah' before she stomped up to her dorm, leaving Nathan to give the rest of them a sheepish grin.

"Oh god! We blew it!" Fred groaned, flopping on the couch as George and Nathan were filled in on what happened prior to them entering the common room.

Shortly after, Hermione made her way up to her dorm and saw Alex reading on her bed.

"You weren't at lunch but an owl dropped this at me for you." Hermione told her, tossing her the letter before noticing the glum look on her face. "What's wrong?"

"Fred, Harry, and Ron were assholes! They were fighting over me to who got to ask me to the ball as if I was a child or an object!" Alex angrily exclaimed, Hermione, sitting on her bed to face her.
