Me and Miguel walked into the city hall, I could hear the yelling we heard silence and took action, "wait!" Miguel yelled, and turned into the door way to the room,

I followed after walking in also, everyone watched as we walked down to the stand, we stood next to it as the whispers quietly went down,

Sam looked at me and Miguel and then back to her dad, who shrugged, Daniel looked at Johnny who then shrugged at him,

"My name is Miguel Diaz-" "and I'm Harper Lawrence." I said for the first time in my life, Johnny looked at me shocked and smiled, Daniel wasn't amused by this.

"we were both in the school fight." Miguel said, "I was the one that got kicked off the second floor, and she was the one who had brain injury from getting her face kicked into the floor." He said and I cringed thinking about it.

"You know.. I uh, I thought I was gonna be paralyzed. I relearned how to stand. I relearned how to walk. And I want the tournament to continue." Miguel said

"We both could've died that day.. but karate isn't to blame for that, we want to fight.. and we should have the right to." I added.

"We are very happy for your guys recovery. But I'm afraid you two just don't understand." The lady said.

"Yes, they do." Sam said standing up. She started walking down to us, "we're the ones getting hurt. We're the ones fighting." She said,

"Our voices should matter the most. We want a place where we can compete, fairly and safely." Sam added.

"When I first moved here, I was bullied. I realized there was no escaping it. There will always Be some kid who will steal your lunch money, or give you a wedgie, or a swirlie." Miguel said.

"A swirlie?" The lady asked confused. Johnny stood up, "it's when you dunk someone's head in a toilet and flush it" Johnny said using his hand to represent the dunking part.

The lady cringed. "Pretty funny, actually." he said sitting down. "Sensei!" Miguel said whispering. "Dad!" I also said in the same tone.

Miguel turned back to the lady and took a deep breath. "Instead of burying your heads in the sand, pretending bullying doesn't exist, or that you can just get rid of it, what you need to do is to teach kids to defend themselves." Miguel said.

"Physically and mentally" Sam said, "because sometimes the scars you can't see, hurt the most." Sam added. "Although the ones you can see, do hurt a lot too." I said pointing to my forehead.

"Karate is about discipline. It's about inner strength. It's about confidence." Miguel said. "Lessons you can use for the rest of your life." I added.

"Look, I don't know where I'd be today, or who I would be today, if it wasn't for me and harpers sensei." Miguel said and we both turned and looked at Johnny.

"Look, we don't need this tournament to do cool kicks, or sell tickets-"Miguel said, "we need it to show bullies of the world that we're not afraid." I said cutting him off to fill in the words.

"It's called the 'all-valley', because it's for everyone. To give everyone a chance to show what they can do, to fight.. to become a champion.." Miguel said,

"And we deserve that chance." He added, us three all stood up straight and the lady study our faces as she thought, About what? I wasn't sure..

She looked at the other council people. They all shook there heads up and down.

"To be honest, I don't get the valleys fascination with karate. But... if it means that much to all of you, and your willing to sign waivers stating that the city is not liable, then... the all valley under-18 tournament is officially back on." She said,
