3 weeks later

Jen walks into Justins office.

"You ready to go honey?" she stands at the door, arms folded nervously.

He looks up and shuts his computer off.

"Yeah, I'm coming" he walks over to her. Without words, knowing she's nervous about their first scan, he grips her sides and kissing her forehead. "We're gonna be okay."

She smiles weakly and they head out to the car.

They arrive in the underground car park of the hospital. The journey there was relatively quiet on Jen's part. She knew he was making small talk to divert her attention.

When the engine stopped, he heard her take a deep breath and sigh. He turned to look at her and squeezed her hand. She thanked him with a faint smile. Jen knew she wouldn't have made it this far without him by her side but right now her mind was elsewhere.

He walked around to her door and opened it. She faced him, putting a hand on his chest. "Thank you" quiet but meaningful, and about all she could manage at that moment.

He took her hand and they made their way to reception.

Justin had organised this appointment step by step, in order for them to keep their privacy so she followed his lead down the private halls, towards an office. They were directed by the receptionist and headed towards their room.

Jen was pleased they only passed a few doctors on their way in.

"Hi, I'm Doctor James. I'll be taking your initial tests today and passing you over to your midwife for your scan" they shake his hand as he leads them over to the exam table.

Jen sits on the bed, still with a nervous look on her face. Justin looks down at her, taking her hand receiving a smile in return.

"Nice to meet you. Will you be able to know how far along Jen is?" Justin asks, trying to break the ice.

"It might not be entirely accurate today but we'll have a rough idea" The doctor begins filling in paperwork with them. Justin answers a few questions for Jen.

Sensing her nerves, the doctor turns to Jen "I can tell by the look on your face how nervous you are but try to relax. It's completely normal to feel the way you do, especially given your history but I can assure you, you're in great hands, and you obviously have a great support system." He hints, looking back and forth to Justin.

"I'm sorry. I just want to know everything... I'm a worrier" Jen speaks timidly for the first time. Justin squeezes her hand tighter.

"That's totally fine and I'll put you out of your misery as soon as I've taken your bloods" Jen nods and he begins inserting the injection into Jen's arm.

"I'm just going to send these to the lab and I'll be back in a minute with your midwife" He leaves the room and Jen and Justin look at each other.

"You heard him baby. You're in good hands"

Jen smiles and nods in reply.

The door opens and in walks Dr James and a blonde haired lady.

"Hello, I'm Jane. I'll be your midwife on this journey. You can contact me any day, any time with any little thing, and I'll try my best to help you out" she walks over to them, smiling and shaking their hands.
