We're Coming Home

Jen didn't get much sleep. She was so relieved to have Noah with her now, but she'd forgotten how much a newborn baby takes it out of you. She was exhausted and still in pain with her stitches but the thought of going home today made everything worthwhile.

"Is your husband coming to visit this morning Jennifer?" The nurse asked after checking her and Noah over.

"Yeah he should be here soon" she smiled.

"Well I hope he's got the car seat" Jen looked at her with wide eyes "You can both go home today" the nurse smiled.

"Are you serious?"

"The doctor has signed you both off. You're both recovering well and we believe home is where you need to be to benefit even more"

"Oh my god" she whispered.

"I thought you'd like that news" the nurse grinned "Noah has made incredible progress with the skin on skin contact.. so as long as you remember to take care of yourself, you're free to go"

"Thank you so much for everything you've done for us" Jen smiled sweetly at the nurse who had helped her through the last few days.

"Just doing my job... I'm glad you're both doing well but please.. no heavy lifting, keep your wounds clean, no physical activity.. you've had major surgery and need to recover yourself" she reminded her.

"I will. I've got a great support team around me" she smiled, thanking the nurse once more.

Justin arrived an hour later. Rosie came barging through the door. Jen made sure to keep Noah in his crib when they arrived so that Rosie didn't feel pushed out.

"Hi angel... ooh come here, I missed you" Rosie jumped on the bed and Jen hugged her tight.

"Have you been a good girl for daddy?"

"Yeah! I did you a picture mommy" she held up a painting and Jen smiled softly.

"That's beautiful honey. Is that Dolly?"

Rosie nodded, happily.

She noticed Justin moving over towards the crib.

"Dat baby?" she questioned, pointing to the sleeping baby.

"This is Noah.. you're little brother" Justin motioned between them.

"I hold him" she asked so sweetly.

"Sit nicely with mommy" Justin informed her.

She sat at Jen's side with her arm across her shoulders protectively.

Justin placed Noah into Rosie's arms as Jen helped hold his head.

She looked from her two babies to Justin and cried happy tears.

Justin returned the smile as they watched Rosie lean down and kiss Noah's head.

"You're such a good big sister" Jen spoke softly.

"I love him mommy" Rosie smiled from Noah to her parents.

"He loves you too honey"

Justin captured the beautiful moment and beamed proudly at the photo that had become reality. His family. Everything was perfect.

Jen's sweet voice interrupted him "Have you put the car seat in the car?"

He nodded "Yeah it's all done and ready" he still had no idea.

"Good because we're coming home" Jen beamed.

"What?!" His eyes were wide and mouth ajar "Are you serious?"
