Are You Ready

Due to Jen's age and history, the doctors were keeping a close eye on her this pregnancy. They had just arrived home from a scan. Jen was 16 weeks.

"Are you sure you don't want to find out either honey?" she questioned Justin.

"No.. I agree. I want it to be a surprise."

They'd spent the last few weeks arguing over the gender. Jen had decided this time she didn't want to find out. At first Justin disagreed but after some persuasion from Jen, he'd decided it would be lovely to have that last surprise on the day.

"If you want to find out.. I could change my mind"

"Jen shut up. I promise you.. I'm fine with waiting" he reached out for her hands.

"I don't want you to feel like I'm forcing you to wait" she looked down.

He stroked her hands reassuring her "The excitement on the day will be so much more fun this way.. Honestly I'm fine with it" He kissed her.

She nodded slowly "this is all very surreal" she held up her sonogram photo.

"I know" he rubbed her belly softly "Do you still want to announce it?"

"..Yeah" she smiled at him cutely.

Later that evening all their friends were around for a dinner party. They always got together a few weeks after the new year. This year was Jen and Justin's turn to host, and they decided tonight would be the best time to tell everyone their news.

"You look beautiful babe" Justin wrapped his arm around Jen as she walked out their bathroom in a black, casual body-con dress.

"Thank you honey" she kissed him "Is Rosie changed?"

"Yep.. just needs her hair doing but apparently mommy does it best" they laughed knowing Rosie wouldn't let anyone else touch her hair "She really is a mini you"

"I can't argue with that"

"Mommy" Rosie came walking in, interrupting their sweet embrace.

"Yes honey"

"Can I have dis?" she waved two pink scrunchies in the air.

"Of course you can" she lifted Rosie onto her chair and started to put her hair into pigtails.

"I pretty mommy?" she innocently asked looking into the mirror. This girl always surprised her parents.

"You're beautiful princess.. just like mommy" Justin spoke up, watching from the edge of the bed.

Jen smiled at him sweetly in the mirror.

As Jen finished her hair, Rosie stood up on the chair wrapping her arms around Jen's waist.

"Are you okay sweetie?" Jen stroked her arms, kissing her head.

"I wan- cudd-les"

"Oh baby, come here" Jen lifted her into her arms and stroked her back cutely "You can always have cuddles my angel" she kissed her head.

Rosie wrapped her arms around her neck and buried her head onto her shoulder.

Justin observed the connection between them and his heart melted.

He walked over and stroked Jen's back, kissing both their heads "I'll meet you downstairs."

He left them to continue their moment whilst he greeted their guests.

Later in the evening, Justin found Jen on her own looking over the decking. He approached her and wrapped his arm around her back.
