I've got you babe - Jennifer and Justin (Justifer)

They're in shock

Justin helped Jen in the car and held her hand the whole way to the hospital.

It was a fairly quiet journey with the odd groans of pain from Jen. Justin had phoned ahead and arranged for a doctor to meet them upon arrival.

As they arrived Jen turned to Justin as he helped her out the car.

"Will you stay with me Justin?" she spoke so faintly and it worried Justin.

"I'm not going anywhere.. I promise" he kissed her and she gripped his hands tight.

They got checked in and before they knew it Jen was on the bed having an ultra sound.

Justin stayed by Jen's side, she was gripping his hand. He wished he could take her pain and worries away.

The doctor muttered a few words to them about some tests they were going to do and left the room.

"I'm so scared" she began getting teary "what if something's wrong with the baby"

He froze for a second. She'd just said out loud what they both secretly feared.

"Everything's going to be okay" he kissed her head and stroked her hair.

The doctor came back in followed by another man in scrubs.

"Jennifer the scans show that your baby's heartbeat has dropped slightly and is in distress"

Jen and Justin stared at the doctor with wide eyes. Their nightmare had come true. Noting their shock, the doctor continued

"Due to your placenta previa we think it's best to deliver the baby as soon as possible. Their stats are low and we need to get them on oxygen quickly and safely"

"But I'm only 34 weeks" Jen cried. The fear in her voice broke Justin's heart.

"Although your baby is small, there is a much greater chance of them recovering if we act now"

"Are you saying she could lose the baby if we don't" Justin spoke, his voice cracked. Jen looked at him worried.

"The baby needs help with their breathing. To prevent any further issues, we need to deliver now and get them assessed as quickly as we can" the other doctor spoke.

"We believe the best option is to take you for a caesarean right away.. I understand this is incredibly worrying and a shock for you but we need to make quick decisions for the sake of you and baby. A caesarean will avoid any unnecessary bleeding"

Jen snapped out of it and nodded. The thought of anything happening to her baby bought her back to reality "Do whatever you need to do to save my baby" she broke slightly.

She felt Justin rubbing her shoulder and resting his hand against the back of her neck. She looked at him and her heart ached.

"We will prep you for theatre immediately" one doctor left the room whilst the other turned to get some equipment from the other side of the room.

"I'll be here the whole time" Justin squeezed Jens hand and she smiled faintly. He could see the worry in her eyes.

They'd spoke about the possibility of a caesarean and had come around to the idea but this is not the situation they'd envisioned.

Shortly after Jen had been wheeled to theatre. Few words had been said between the two. They knew they were both concerned but the support between them was valuable.

Justin had been given scrubs to wear, as the doctors prepared to give Jen an injection in her back.

"Keep as still as you can Jennifer" the nurse stood in front of her for guidance. Justin smiled at her from across the room. She flinched slightly as she felt the needle enter her skin.
