Before they knew it they were at the hospital.

Jen hadn't spoken much but Justin knew what was going on in her head. Truthfully he was thinking the same but he was trying not to show his fear in front of Jen.

"Jennifer we believe you're suffering with placenta previa" Jen looked from Justin to the doctor curiously.

"It means the placenta has lowered in your uterus and is covering your cervix slightly. We're going to do another ultra sound but I want to reassure you that this doesn't mean you're suffering a miscarriage."

Justin heard Jen sigh heavily. He squeezed her hand tight.

A midwife entered and began an ultrasound.

Jen watched the screen closely, waiting to see her baby.

A heartbeat could quietly be heard, echoing in the room.

Justin let out a heavy breath and looked to Jen. Her eyes were full of tears. She smiled slightly.. he was relieved to see a glimpse of hope in her face.

The doctor spoke up "I understand the heavy bleeding would be scary for you and although this is quite rare, it is manageable. You may find the bleeding doesn't disappear completely but it will definitely become lighter"

"Is the baby okay?" Jen spoke up for the first time.

"Absoluetly.. as well as could be" the midwife told her and the doctor continued

"Now this could clear up in the next few weeks or you may still suffer some light bleeding throughout your pregnancy. We will monitor you regularly and it might be that you will have to have a caesarean a little earlier than your due date. The most important thing is that you take it easy.. especially over the next few weeks while you're bleeding."

"If she has to have the baby earlier.. what could happen?" Justin asked.

"I have to warn you that baby might need some extra help with their breathing or could be underweight but I've known of women go on to have a full-term pregnancy with no further side effects. It's too early to tell at this stage."

"Is there anything I can do to help?" Jen asked quietly.

"I advise you not to exercise. Nothing physical... get as much rest as possible. You will probably have cramping for a few weeks. We hope that your side affects will disappear gradually but you need to be cautious. I'll leave you with your midwife but will be back shortly to discharge you."

"Thank you doctor" Justin replied.

After the midwife left Jen and Justin were on their own for the first time since it all happened.

"You okay?" Justin asked softly.

"..I..I really thought I'd lost them" Jen looked down, rubbing her bump.

"I did too" Justin whispered. He reached over resting his one hand on hers and his other wrapping around her shoulder. She looked up at him and they shared a look. A look of relief and gratefulness.

"Are you okay honey?" she linked her fingers with his.

"I'm fine" he kissed her sweetly "I'm just glad you're both okay."

"I was so scared" Jen spoke up after a few minutes "I wasn't thinking straight. All I could think was..I..I needed you with me" her eyes filled with tears.

"I tried to get there as soon as I could" he felt awful.

"No honey.. you did.. You were the strength I needed" she moved over making room for him on the bed. He sat next to her and wrapped his arm around her. She leant into him sighing.
