• Maddi POV •

I reached my hand back to pull some hair onto my shoulders, then I remembered it was all gone. I laughed at myself and James looked at me. "What's so funny?" he asked. I shrugged, "Nothing."

He shook his head, "Did you want to see your sister before we get on the road?" He asked me. I nodded, I had a few selfish words to say to Jennifer.

He changed the direction he had been driving in. "Why don't you live in Ohio with your mom?" I asked him, "She's really nosy and I feel if I live a state away I'll have enough space between us. I always visit down here though." He shrugged, "What about Chelsea?" I asked.

"I feel really bad because since she's the only child now she has to deal with our mama alone." He answered, I nodded. After I left Laura's house when I was sixteen, I wished I could go back so bad. I regretted never being nice to people.

"You and Chelsea seem really close like you're each other's best friend." I told him. He shrugged, "We're the only kids."

I nodded again, that's kind of like Mason and me, except we had a little sister and Mason and I weren't close.

He pulled into Jennifer's driveway shortly. As soon as I was out of the car Abi ran up to me and hugged me tightly. "Mommy told me you were leaving." she said. I nodded, "but don't worry okay?" I said. She nodded, "I'm going to go talk to your mom, play with James." I told her. She nodded and ran to him.

I followed Jennifer to her living room, I was really glad that their home didn't have too much stuff in it. "You need to move to Virginia." I blurted. She made a face to me. "Excuse me?" She said.

I sat up for more confidence, no stuttering, if I stutter I lose.

"I need you to move to Virginia and if you don't I will take you to court to get custody over my sister." I said smoothly. I know that I wouldn't ever do that, but she didn't. "That's not fair." she replied. I shook my head, "It also wasn't fair for Mason and me to believe Abi was dead and we spent the last few years in foster care. Life isn't fair, Jennifer, and you should know that being an adult and all." I said.

She shook her head, "That would be taking Gracie away from all her friends."

She was pushing my buttons. Jennifer was a good person, she genuinely was, but Abi is my sister. "I will take you to court to take custody and neither of us want that. Just move to Virginia. I'm more important than any of her friends." I told her. She shook her head.

"I'll give you six months, Jennifer." I shrugged. That's enough time to make a plan and buy a home.

She shook her head. "This isn't right." She told me. I shrugged, "Yeah you're right it isn't." And with that I got up and walked out. "Are you leaving already?" Abi said. I nodded, she gave me a hug then ran inside.

After we got back in Virginia, it was two in the morning. James made us something to eat quickly then we laid down. I felt extra happy for some reason. Part of it was because I was going to see Carter tomorrow, things may be awkward, but it still would be nice to see him. I had bought him a new phone while we were in Ohio.

"Are you comfortable?" I asked James. I was laying on him with my head on his chest and a leg thrown over his body. He nodded, "This feels better than before with your hair not all in my face." He teased, "I couldn't ever lay on my back all night. It's uncomfortable." I told him. He shrugged and I grabbed his hand, "Switch." I suggested. He laughed and allowed me to lay on my back.

We had our positions switched and I was playing in his hair like he'd do me. I also gave his ass a squeeze. "I'm uncomfortable, switch again." I laughed. We got back into our normal positions and soon fell asleep.
