Elaine's POV

It was two at dawn and I was sleeping with Billie's arms wrapped around my body when my phone strarted ringing.

Billie: (groan) shut it off

Elaine: it could be important,I won't take long I promise

Billie: okay

I sit up straight and grab my phone and it was the Dean,I shake Billie up. She sits up looking at me confused.

Elaine: it's the Dean from the university I used to go to

Billie: what are you waiting for? Pick up

I pick up the phone

Elaine: good...morning Professor Muhammad

Dean: it's afternoon

Elaine: oh sorry it's dawn here so I thought

Dean: (chuckles) it's okay, sorry to disturb you. I personally called you to congratulate you for obtaining your doctorate . You've been the student of the year four years in a row. That's the best students we've had in decades

Elaine: thank you very much Professor

Dean: since you already said it yourself it's dawn where you are let me let you sleep

Elaine: thank you so much sir

Dean: you'll get an email letting you know about the ceremony

Elaine: thank you sir bye

I then drop the call and see a curious Billie besides me.

Billie: then?

Elaine: I'm gonna get my doctorate!

Billie: I told you so, I'm happy for you

Elaine: I'm basically a doctor now

Billie: I'm so proud of you

Elaine: I'm so happy I can't wait to tell mom and Isa let me call them.

I call mom and tell her about what the professor had said and she was crying tears of joy in her words.

Billie: I'm so happy for you

Elaine: I can't believe this is really happening

Billie: better believe it

Elaine: maybe you can help me with that

Billie: oh yeah?

Elaine: yeah

Billie and I were busy the whole night and I was so tired. I don't know where she gets all her energy from, she's never tired.

Billie: babe wake up we have to go

Elaine: go where?

Billie: you'll see just hurry up

Elaine: why are you dressed up?

Billie: just hurry up you'll see

Elaine: okay

I get off bed and go freshen up

Elaine: babe what is the occasion? What should I wear?

Billie: just get dressed

Elaine: I might as well walk around naked

Billie: I wouldn't mind but no, I'm the only who's allowed to see you naked

Elaine: okay I'll wear sweatpants

Billie: no wear something more elegant

Elaine: I'll just wear a dress or a skirt because I didn't bring something elegant

Billie: okay any of those is fine

I wear a a black pencil skirt, black crop top and block heels. I had braids on so I just turn them into a pony.

Elaine: how do I look?

Billie: ravishing

Elaine: (blush) thank you

Billie: let's go

We leave and we head to some place. The place was so beautiful it looked like a fancy historic hotel of some sort. When we get inside everyone screams "surprise".

Elaine: what's going on?

Billie: I just wanted to congratulate you on getting your doctorate

I just stand there stunned with tears threatening my eyes

Billie: no no no don't cry on me

I hold back the tears and smile because I was speechless because if her thoughtfulness.
Maggie and Patrick walk toward us.

Maggie: congratulations dear we're so proud of you

Patrick: congrats

Elaine: thank you so much you didn't have to go through all this trouble for me

Maggie: don't be silly you're like our daughter we'd do the same for you as we'd do with any of our children

Elaine: thank you

Billie: mom you're making her cry

Patrick: let's leave you two to it

Claudia and Fin walk to us

Claudia: congratulations girl, I'm so happy for you

Elaine: thank you

Fin: we're all so proud of you

Billie: y'all are gonna make my crybaby cry

Elaine: (playfully punches her) hey

Claudia: we'll leave you two

Everyone come to congratulate me and it felt so good to know that there are people who actually care about me. I call Zara to let her know about the news before she hears it from someone else because if she did I'll be dead. You know Zara she was genuinely happy for me and kept making weird noises and stuff.

Elaine: thank you, you really didn't have to

Billie: yes I had to

Elaine: I'm such a lucky girl y'know?

Billie: I'm the lucky one
