86: supposed to be my friend

Billie's POV

Elaine was at work as usual and I had our friends over. We were playing games like truth or dare, thirty seconds, scrabble and so on. Then Elaine walks in and greets us.

Elaine: hi

Zara: hey we've been waiting for you

Fin: come play with us

Elaine: sorry I can't I'm a little tired

Isa: we're about to play Scrabble

Elaine: I'll pass

After she said that she grabbed an apple and went away. We all look at each other in shock, Elaine never misses an opportunity to whoop our asses when we play Scrabble.

Isa: what just happened?

Zara: beats me

Claudia: is she okay?

Billie: I don't know I'll go check on her

I walk up to the bedroom and find her already in a oversized t-shirt.

Billie: babe are you okay?

Elaine: yeah I'm okay just tired

Billie: are you sure?

Elaine: yeah

I pull her to me and grab her ass and I try to kiss her but she looks away.

Elaine: Billie I just told you I'm tired

Billie: Elaine what's going on?

Elaine: I'm tired

Billie: why don't you want me to touch you?

Elaine: is that all you care about? having sex?

Billie: no but...

Elaine: no Billie but nothing. Get out of my way I want to sleep.

She then gets in bed and sleep. Elaine is really acting strange and I'm starting to think she's cheating on me and the fact that she had a pregnancy test. I stare at her for sometime then go back to the rest.

Isa: and then?

I just shrug at them because I'm also confused.

Zara: Isa what happened when you were in Africa? She's been like this since you got back

Isa: I don't know she went to gram's place then came back acting like this

Claudia: was your mom there?

Isa: no

Claudia: maybe she misses her?

Billie: but why isn't she talking to us?

Fin: this seems deep

We then continue playing games until it's late and they leave.

Isa: I'm going to bed now

Billie: good night

Isa: good night too

We go to our designated rooms and I find Elaine sweating and talk in her sleep. Her condition is getting worse day by day. I wake her up.

Billie: babe what's wrong?

Elaine: it was just a bad dream

Billie: Elaine talk to me please

Elaine: (fakes a smile) I'm okay get in let's sleep

I hesitantly get in bed and spoon her then sleep. In the middle of the night I realise that she's not in bed anymore, I see that her side lamp was turned on. I check the time and it's two at dawn. I get off bed and find her sitting down leaning on the bed reading a novel.

Billie: babe why aren't you sleeping?

Elaine: did I wake you up?

Billie: no

I go sit opposite her and cup her face.

Billie: Elaine I know something is bothering you, please talk to me. I'm begging you, it pains me to see you like this.

She looks at me then sheds a tear.

Billie: talk to me mi amor

She starts sobbing so I just pull her in for a hug. She sobs in my arms, it killed me seeing her in such a state and not knowing what was the cause. After a while she spoke.

Elaine: he...he r-raped me. Samuel raped me

To be honest I didn't know what to say to her. I felt like crying but I knew that was not an option because I have to be strong for her.

Elaine: it's okay if you don't want me anymore. I won't blame you if you decide to leave me, no one wants damaged goods.

I cup her face and look at her then my eyes fail me and I shed a tear which I vigorously wipe I away.

Billie: why are you talking about yourself like that? No I won't leave you I'll never leave you. I love you remember? I'll walk with you to the ends of this earth and if it means that I die for you I gladly will. I love you okay?

She nods at me then I kiss her and she actually kisses me back passionately for the first time since she came back. After we kiss I hold her tiny body in mine.

Elaine: Billie...

Billie: yeah?

Elaine: please don't tell anyone

I think of  convincing her otherwise but then I remember that I'm supposed to support her decisions even though I don't agree with it.

Billie: okay I won't, wanna get some fresh air

She nods, then gets out of my hold and helps me up. We get dressed in sweaters and hoodies then I take her to the beach. I know how much she loves the beach, it calms her down. When we get there it was quiet and that's exactly what she needed, we sit on the rocks and look at the ocean in silence.

Elaine: I was chatting with you when he came in and locked the door. I tried fighting him but he overpowered me and tied me to the headboard with his belt, he then went down on me and told me that I tasted good and he'll make me feel things I've never felt before, he forced himself on me and all I felt was pain. When he was done with me he walked out like nothing happened leaving me in a bloodbath of my own blood. (crying) what did I do so wrong to deserve this? Tell me who did I wrong so I can go apologize to them (sobbing) tell me who did I wrong?Billie he's supposed to be my friend

I pull her in for a hug and hold her tighter than before. She wasn't the only one crying, I was crying too but I had to be strong for her. She needs me now more than ever.

Billie: Elaine it's not your fault, it's not your fault that there are such animals in this world. Elaine you're an amazing person and if they can't see that it's on them. I'm sorry I failed to protect you this time, I shouldn't have ignored my gut I should've went with you. I'm sorry I failed you.

We just stay like that for a while then head home. When we get home we go to bed and I hold her tight and she sleeps like a baby for the first time in forever.
