'Master, how have you been?' Skye's voice reached out to Mila, sounding distant and drowsy. But just as Mila began to respond, she was interrupted by the woman guiding her through the monastery, causing the fragile connection she had been seeking to slip away.
"Miss, are you alright?" The nun's concerned voice brought Mila back to the present, her focus returning to the serene surroundings.
"Y-Yes, I'm fine. Please, continue." Mila nodded, trying to hide her disappointment as she listened to the history of the monastery. The woman spoke of how the air elements had lifted the land, creating the sacred space where they now stood. Mila absorbed the information, though she felt a growing fatigue as the story went on.
Eventually, she found herself sitting by the monastery's water fountain, seeking a moment of rest. As the wind played with her hair, she sensed something nearby. Turning her head, she spotted a tiny Polka Dotted Air Newt gazing up at her with curious eyes.
"Hello, what may your name be?" Mila asked softly, smiling at the small creature.
'Tsk, not like you're going to understand me,' the Newt muttered, turning away with a hint of disdain.
"I do understand you," Mila replied, her voice gentle.
'What?! Do you know what I'm saying right now?! Like, at this minute?!' The Newt's eyes widened in shock, clearly not expecting a human to comprehend him without a contract.
"Mhm, what's your name? I'm Mila." Mila introduced herself, her tone warm and inviting. The Newt, taken aback by her kindness, blushed a deep red.
'The name's Net. It's not a very good name, though,' he said, looking embarrassed. Mila reached out and gently petted his small head, her touch reassuring.
"I think it's a good name. Please don't be ashamed of it. Whoever named you must have been a great being." Mila's words seemed to soothe him, and Net climbed onto her shoulder, finding comfort in her presence.
'What brings you to this place?' Net asked, his curiosity piqued by the sight of such a young girl in a place so sacred.
"Well... if I had to be honest, I'm looking for someone. She's waiting for me to find her," Mila said softly. She noticed that Net's eyes were welling up with tears, the little salamander clearly moved by her words. 'Did I say something wrong?' she wondered, feeling concerned.
'You are so sweet!!!! Someone like you putting in the effort to find someone important like that!!!! I wish I could have someone do that for me!!!!' Net suddenly burst into tears, catching Mila completely off guard.
"Eh?!" Mila exclaimed, holding her head in disbelief. She hadn't expected to encounter such an emotional beast.
'I was always alone, and I've always dreamed of meeting someone who would form a contract with me. But I think I don't have a master because no one wants me,' Net admitted, his tone turning gloomy.
"If you want, you can join me on my little adventure," Mila offered, her voice gentle but firm. Net's eyes widened in shock, quickly turning to happiness.
'Okay!!!!!' Net agreed enthusiastically.
As they left the monastery and reached the outskirts of town, Mila found herself standing on the edge of a high cliff, looking out over the vast landscape below. Heights had never really scared her, and she took in the view with a calm demeanor.
"It's that bastard child!!!!" A harsh voice interrupted her thoughts. Mila turned to see the same group of men from the tavern, their faces twisted with anger. Her hand instinctively moved to the hilt of her sword, her eyes narrowing as she assessed the situation.
